My MTN fixed LTE sim just stopped working for me at about 3pm today. I know because Netflix just stopped feeding me a picture. I see full signal both on the router and when I log in. Can't connect to any sites. I have been using it intermittently since early December and full time since the 1st of Jan and up until now have not had any issues. There is no load shedding in my area.

Is there any general outage? Afrihost support is once again non-responsive. :(

Mine's working just fine. Been using it solidly for 2 weeks already, no problem.

Working just dandy here in S.Subs, CT, even with LS

It just stopped. No warning. I was about 2 hours into The Irishman and the picture froze. Went to the computer, nothing working there. Looked at the router, full reception showing, logged into the router, got the "Connected" message.

Makes no sense. Hope it comes back soon because being back on this POS Rain sim is agony.

Had the same issue recently, started a thread, post there and ask Afriman to assist tomorrow.

Well I hope they can explain it. According to the router everything is hunky dory. I don't have any error messages on there, just no connection to the internet. Can't even start a speedtest.

It's apparently a "dead" connection. Like a zombie or defunct process on Unix.
It needs to be reset from AH/MTN side so diddly squat you can do about it until they help.
Still waiting for an explanation as to how it happens....ne'er mind.

Good luck!

@AfriMan did something and it is working again. Thank you!

This does highlight an issue w.r.t. making sure you have a backup though because if I hadn't been able to connect to this forum and get the help and advice here, I'd be stuck.

Hi All
I am considering signing up with Afrihost for one of their MTN Pure LTE packages. I see that one of the recommended routers is the Huawei B618 LTE router. Does it matter whether it is the B618s-22d or the B618s-65d?

I am currently using the 30+30GB Afrihost/MTN Pure LTE package on a Rain B618s-22d which is working very well. The 65d should perform similarly as MTN is not currently using (or has access to) any TDD spectrum for their LTE services. I am not sure what LTE spectrum will become available later this year though.

The MTN Pure LTE service is working better for me than one of the Telkom LTE prepaid bundles but it is restricted to one location while the Telkom bundles can be used as a proper mobile service and even split/transferred across several SIM cards.

Thanks for the reply and appreciate the input. I am currently on a Telkom LTE package but it's so slow. Looking to rather move to the MTN Fixed LTE and see how that goes. I am aware that the MTN Pure LTE is restricted to one tower but if it means getting faster speeds then that's all fine by me. It's only for home use anyway.

@Magandroid: You can always cancel after a month if the Pure LTE service doesn't work for you. The 30+30GB Pure LTE package costs R199 per month which is cheaper than the 60+60GB 61 day Telkom prepaid bundle which costs R459 or R230pm. In your case the B618-65d might be a better choice in case you want to switch back to Telkom at some point. You might be able to find a cheap B618 in the classifieds - OLX, Gumtree, Carbonite, MyBB etc.

My download speeds on the Pure LTE package vary between 20~40Mbps and the upload speed is usually close to 10Mbps but these are obviously location dependent. I have heard of some customers getting 80Mbps download speeds and others below 20Mbps.

Mine was also dead today around 3PM. In the middle of a training session. Switched over to direct MTN and it was fine.

Thanks for sucking today and not inform your users Afrihost.

My connection is down again from yesterday. Was working fine now nothing router shows connection is there, I can do a tracert and ping but nothing else works.

The last time it magically fixed itself and they asked me if I moved the router or the sim but this thing is fixed in my pc room for a year now. Never had these issues with cellc
