Afrihost New Network Feedback

Looks like the 169.x.x.x range is assigned to Afrihost. Thought that whole range was a private IP range. But, according to Wikipedia, only the addresses in the 169.254.1.0 to 169.254.254.255 range are private: "If a host on an IEEE 802 (ethernet) network cannot obtain a network address via DHCP, an address from 169.254.1.0 to 169.254.254.255 may be assigned pseudorandomly".

Either way, my download speeds (via UseNet) have slowed to 0 KB/s :( Thought they have enough capacity to handle to the load, but apparently not ...

Only 169.254.0.0/16 is officially listed as reserved :)
Officially, these IPs are listed for private use:

10.0.0.0 - 10.255.255.255 (10/8 prefix)
172.16.0.0 - 172.31.255.255 (172.16/12 prefix)
192.168.0.0 - 192.168.255.255 (192.168/16 prefix)

Anyway, drop me a PM if you're still seeing poor performance this morning.

PPPOE is stuck at connecting on my router. Guest Telkom account works just fine.

Never mind now the guest account isn't even working. Guess Telkom must be screwing around with our area again.

Edit 2: guest account is working. Turns out you have to put www in front of the Telkom website url.

Weird, PM me your details with the times you were unable to connect - I'll take a look through the logs from my end :)

And ... my entire ADSL connection went down for about 15 minutes at 10 pm. Even tried plugging in the phone straight to the Telkom jack and the line was dead. WTH is going on today? If not Afrihost, then Telkom - can't seem to win :(

:(
No dial tone is never a good sign.

Are you still having the same issues today?

I Have to use vpn to do the Download it was timing out without

Which account do you have?
Either way though, the downloads shouldn't be timing out though.

Is it only iTunes that's affected or are your HTTP downloads also affected?

Sounds like something is going on in your area - PM me your line number and I'll see what I can find.
I managed to get it working again, but that was after I couldn't get authorisation for both my accounts. Password for both were correct, but just told me it was incorrect :)

Was the line syncing at that time? Or was there just no authentication?

Line looked like it was syncing, but when I entered my credentials into the router, I just got a red x saying password or something incorrect. This was after I had rebooted the router, as I thought perhaps it needed one as it was slow as hell

Did the router display any sync stats at all?
If you're still having issues this morning please PM me your line number so I can run a few checks on my end.

Urrr I already did check page 167. I also PM you my AF username, you said were gonna have my account checked out.

Understandable you just only got my username this morning so let know what is going on.

Thanks.
Sorry, only got it late on the 13th - I'll pass this onto our team now.

I have no idea on the stats. It worked again about 30 mins later.

Think I'm just patient with these things, or at least I think I'm just one who thinks it will sort itself out. Either that, or I'm a sucker for punishment

Glad it's all fixed up.
If it happens again drop me a PM with your details and some times that I can take a look at. Sure we can nail it down from there :)
