Anyone experiencing really slow speeds. Test page works perfect. But on iTunes updating an iPhone is taking forever

EDIT: its just apple servers ... they extremely slow

My connection hasn't given problems since around 8pm. I'm not sure if the issue is only between 4pm and 8pm, because the last few days I've left the backup account active until late at night.

I can only assume that something is very wrong with how AH is treating fibre connections. My line flies with any other ISP.
Hopefully the critical care team will identify and fix the bug. :)

Updated Evernote off the App Store late yesterday and didn't see any issues - is it still slow for you today?

I believe our Critical Care team are working with you to get this sorted :)

Sent AfriGenie a PM but no reply as yet, perhaps Afriguy can shed some light. Getting mixed answers across the board regarding Afrihost and MetroFibre Networks (NOT Telkom FTTH).

Hey there,

Really hoping you can shed some light on MetroFibre and other ISP's. They claiming to be full open access (and used Afrihost as an example) but we're struggling to get a proper answer out of them.

Their exact claim is this:
"Open Access means that should you, for example, use Afrihost as your ISP, you contact Afrihost and tell them that you want to be on our fibre. Afrihost then contacts us. We then charge Afrihost an open access line rental fee. This contract is between us and Afrihost. You and Afrihost sign a contract of your choice."

Is the above true? Do we enter into a full agreement with you?

I'm one of the trustees involved in bringing Fibre to our complex, and MetroFibres one of the options - they're ringing such alarm bells with me re: open access, I need a 3rd party (like Afrihost) to confirm their status on other ISPs on their networks, and the particulars of it.

thanks

Heya

Sorry the Genie didn't get back to you, he's just stepped into the office now.
As for MetroFibre, there are no formal agreements in place from our end - so officially our data accounts will work on Telkom fibre lines.

Ultimately though, if it's an Open Access network and information can be changed or is allowed on their network, theoretically it should work with any DSL account. This isn't something we can guarantee though - so it may be a better option to wait until our fibre line offers are finalised.

Whats going on with google services?

Latency to Google DNS and google.co.za are > 200ms.

I'm in CPT.

Nope. Haven't heard from them. If they're working on my issue then they're going solo.

I'm heading out now, and can only take calls again from mid-afternoon.

I've had high latency to Google with AH's DNS settings for a few days now. At first my PC seemed responsible (rebooting fixed my trace routes for some reason), but after that first day it's been evident on all devices on the network. Could be Google routing internationally for some dumb reason? That's what AH said mine was doing.

Sounds like you're routing internationally with those pings.
Can you paste some ping/ traceroute results here please?

Hhmm, I know our team was busy on the account yesterday.
I'll chase things up and see what the updates are :)

Trace complete.

I've tried this from various adsl lines (business uncapped) that we have in different areas of CPT and all are the same.
My private home line (which is a capped account) is doing the same.

Very strange.
What DNS servers are you using?

We're using the default allocated Afrihost DNS. Either 169.1.1.1 or 169.1.1.2 or 169.1.2.1

Hhhmm, those aren't the region specific ones - or are a mixture of North and South.
Try allocating the below DNS servers to see if this helps.

169.1.2.1
169.1.2.2
