Hi Afriguy

Thank you for getting the Critical Care team on my issue, they have been very good at providing feedback and communicating with me.

As for the speedtest , please take into consideration that i have used the MyBB speed test as my default go to test for many years, for myself and in resolving ISP issues for clients, and have a considerable amount of trust built up , in the results. Enough to not even consider using the Saix or speedtest.net tests.

I do take those results ( Saix and speedtest.net) into consideration with this issue atm and after feedback from Critical Care tomorrow about the WinMtr to EvEonline.com will probably close the support ticket.

Thanks again

No worries, glad our team got to chat to you and has things out :)
I'm also starting a few tests from different speedtest sources to see if I can find similarities to what you're seeing.

Not sure why justification needs to come from my end to you on this?

I'm not bothered really. It should voluntarily come from your end to the customer, in the form of an apology seeing as he's been trying to get you to help him for days on end and once again this evening he was just about fobbed off, and to make matters worse you blamed him for not sending data to Afrihost and then not 1m later admit to not having actually looked at the ticket.

Either way, something good came of this for him at least now, hopefully...

Not sure there's a need for mediation here.
DJ, I don't post in the Crystal Web thread, whether or not I have advise. I think that's only appropriate.

None of us here like to see a fellow mybb member getting the short end of the stick.

Mod_note: These threads are clearly designed/intended for customers to provide feedback to their respective ISPs - not for disgruntled former customers to vent, not for other ISPs to promote their services, etc - and, one hopes, for the relevant ISP to respond
Where were other services promoted?

I'm happy to take feedback on board in a constructive way, as opposed to a public offensive by a member directly affiliated with another ISP.
Sorry, that's not what this thread is for, nor is is particularly appropriate.

Happy to continue this conversation with either you or DJ via PM. Otherwise I'd prefer to stay on topic on what the thread is designed for.

Thanks.

Yes.
The links to the thresholds should be on the product page, under the fine print section :) I've linked them below.

https://www.afrihost.com/site/page/acceptable_use_policy#thresholds

How much data are you planning on using per month, roughly?

Thanks for the link, the use will probably be around 40 - 50 GB per month on a 2 MB home uncapped. No P2P, only browsing, email, some Youtube and a download here and there.
So just to clarify, if I hit 40 GB for the month on a 2 MB uncapped account, do I get throttled for the entire remainder of the month, or do I only get throttled if the network gets busy like during peak times?

Why don't you go for the R99 50GB Capped account instead? Currently there is a special whereby after hours data on it is zero rated. You can always change packages once the special ends.

I'll agree with Johnatan56 here dude, rather grab a Capped account.
Comparing the two data only options:

2Mbps Home Uncapped will set you back R167/ month, while a
50GB Capped account will only cost you R99/ month. You can even go up to 75GB for R149 and still have a few bucks left over for a beer ;)

Based on what you're planning on using the account for, and your usage - I really think Capped is a better option :)

This is not for me, it's for a friend I'm advising who knows nothing about this stuff. Main reason for going with Afrihost is because I can adapt and change his package on a month to month basis depending on what works for him, so I'll see how it works out and make changes accordingly.
BTW personally I've been on a capped account for the past few months, currently paused but from next month when I get my 8 MB line from Telkom I'll be upping my cap to 200 GB per month, capped works great for me.

83% (and rising the longer this runs) to jhb-up3.ip.adsl.co.za via Afrihost in JHB.

Ah OK.
Maybe recommend both packages? Just seems to make a bit more sense to go Capped for that usage pattern.

Are you able to ping that hop without any packet loss?
