Thanks. According to the coverage map, OpenServe is not currently interested in our area for fibre so I won't hold my breath. I am expected to be excited that my area is covered for 10mbps ADSL - if only this was something that could actually be used. You would think that Telkom might recognise a congested exchange as an indicator of demand in an area, but apparently not so. My only hope is that fibre will reduce some congestion on the Exchange so we might get a decent service one day. Fortunately my area is a target for at least 3 alternative fibre providers and they seem much more proactive than OpenServe. I don't hold any sympathy for Telkom if they are slow off the mark and as a result lose significant market share, because I will probably sign with the first fibre provider that can physically connect me.

This is the first I have learned of Afrihosts alliance with OpenServe as stated on their website “Afrihost has a strong relationship with Openserve, bringing Openserve's vast infrastructure to the market, complemented with Afrihost's famous client service." Interesting.

I have been fighting since February to get my exchange upgraded (as well as multiple faults logged).
It is horrible.

Thanks so much for the support - we're definitely seeing good things and have some great stuff planned for our clients before the year ends to thank them for their loyalty and sticking with us through tough times :)

I''m having no issues here. I think it's also about what YouTube wants to take, sometimes it won't smash your line - not sure if there is a way to do that without just upping the quality. This is me on 720p, pretty much my line's absolute maximum.

OpenServe is basically Telkom Wholesale. As one of the biggest ADSL Line Wholesale resellers, I think it's a great compliment to be featured prominently, but very little has changed as far as I know. I have been invited to a Telkom meeting where they'll be explaining how things will be changing. I'm hoping it will be in some ways that address issues like this - but I think Telkom may take the long term view that rolling out fibre and replacing copper is ultimately the best solution. Kind of thing it could be right, but depends on how long that actually takes.
 
Afriman is there any pressure you can put on Telkom to hurry up and fix my exchange already?

Could you report back from this? Also interested to know how this will affect the resale market (or will there be a MyBB article?).

Telkom has a huge advantage to roll out fibre, existing overhead cable infrastructure, the ability to get permits to trench quickly, established junction boxes in most areas etc. It makes sense that they leverage this and invest in fibre quickly. Fortunately there is some competition to accelerate the process. Thanks for engaging on this topic, probably now belongs on another thread. I do think the ISP's like Afrihost do catch a lot of flack where the real elephant in the room is Telkoms flaky ADSL infrastructure and glacier like response to congestion.

Not much. The best we can generally coax from them is a provisional ETA when they expect the exchange to be upgraded, which they generally don't like to give becuase of the expectation :(

I will give whatever feedback I can - obviously there are some intercompany agreements I can't breach but essentially I think Telkom wants us much info out in the public eye to make these processes clearer and simpler to navigate for our mutual clients.

Would definitely like to do the tests I've been suggesting. If we can monitor your traffic from our side, we can tell you if anything on our network is acting on your bandwidth.
