Afrihost New Network Feedback

and this all start at basically 21:00 last night, I always find it odd when outages happen at exact times. Afrihost manage my account so can you find out what is going on? its also irritating that its always an issue unrelated to Afrihost, when many users with test accounts from other ISP's have proven that its not the case. I currently don't have any test accounts so I cannot do any alternative tests. But previously my exchange was blamed and my test alternative account proved this not to be the case.

The other issue I have "right now". the problem is your service is a 24hrs service, I need to have my account working 24/7 and especially when I have important things to do, so having issues last night and many other nights/days is unacceptable.

I am still waiting to see how management plan to make up for the continual issues.

I definitely don't think this is a management issue, in terms of overall feedback, we are satisfied that the new network is delivering a better performance. We're dealing with the smaller issues here where we are seeing specific issues that we are also having a high rate of success of resolving, whether they turn out to be line or local network issues, or problems on our side which we are able to resolve in partnership with our clients.

I would definitely like to see any alternative tests. From the results you've posted, high latency on the 2nd hop, that strongly suggests congestion or a line issue.

Sorry, but I have to disagree. I also had massive issues last night (pings in excess of 1000 to the Dota servers) Downloads @ <2mb on a 4mb line, latency to JHB of >150ms. Started relatively early - just before 7PM, but couldn't have been bothered to see what time it got better (IF it got better). There seems to be a problem at night with the network, starting around 7PM and lasting till who knows when. If you go back to posts from 6PM last night on this thread you will see I posted my results.

I can't give you my experience during daytime because I am at work, but between 3PM and 7PM the network usually flies and I have no issues, but from 7 I have to listen to my wife complain that she can't go on Facebook because it won't load - I can't play Dota because of latency and Twitch is basically dead. Don't get me wrong - it streams, but at such low quality that I have to squint to try and make sense of what I am seeing.

I will check tonight again, and if it happens again I will send my findings to Oscar so he can investigate. I seriously doubt it is exchange related, because a lot of people here experience the same thing.

One of our network team plays competitive DOTA and he was paying for most of the evening without issues, according to his report this morning. Please do report to Critical Care, we definitely want to resolve as many client's experience as possible becuase we believe the network is performing well for the vast majority of clients.

Fair comment. Lots of people aren't experiencing problems and, generally speaking, neither have I since the migration. Last night, however, was a problem. I will keep an eye on the performance and let you know if there is anything more than a hiccup.

Awesome - thanks so much! If you can post as much info as possible if you do see problems we'll try to recreate that on our side.

We definitely have enough capacity, at the moment we're doing very little shaping for most of the day and we're not seeing congestion on the network at any time (indicating that when we need to shape, this is still more than sufficient for the network to run smoothly).

Business is also never going to be shaped, as per the way the product is structured, and the only P2P limit is using the Optimisation feature (which I am assuming you have already tested). I always discourage using a single file P2P test as an indication of shaping, becuase there are way too many variables in play. To use P2P as an indicator of throughput, it much better to load up loads of files and let them run concurrently.

OMG!!

You did not check the Graph!! Have a closer look.

P2PTrottle.JPG

This is a P2P test with at least 10 Torrents running the same time over and over the hole day..
2 of that Torrents have atlease 30 000 seeder and 12 000 peers..
Clearly in the Graph you can See that it was working ok till 19:30 last night.
Then between 20:00 to 22:00 you Shape me to death (on the Same P2P connection running over and over)
Only after 22:00 as you can see the Shaping stoped..

You just said your self..
"Business is also never going to be shaped, as per the way the product is structured"
But clearly on my Business Account you do shape me to death..

Like I said.. this is not the fist time this happens, and not my first test sins the "New Network"

Now.. Tell me .. Why is the P2P running ok till 20:00, then dead till 22:00 (On the same 10 torrents over and over with very high seeders and peers)..

You are Shaping my Business account and that is a FACT!!

There could be any number of reasons why you lost throughput at that time. It depends on the files you were downloading their seeders, and also what you general performance was like. If you have QoS setup on your router and were running other services on the network at the time like video streaming. I ran P2P on a Capped account (after 8pm) which has the same business rules as Business DSL and got full line speed, so I am confident that we don't shape Business and that this was not what the general experience on Business was at the time.

We'll need to look at more tests on your overall line performance at the time to determine what could have influenced that dip in performance, but I would definitely not conclude that this is shaping without further investigation.

Can you please test now and tell me if you're getting the same results?
I'm not at home i have to work but the problem was last night i have switch to webafica to do my work i'm only at home after 19:00
but in the evening and weeken when are ploblems on your network you not online
the problem is the pop is overloadet in the Evening this is the same problem you have on the old Network and no good support in the evening and on Weekends

We are definitely still online here on MyBB after 7pm, so we're definitely happy to get that feedback and pass anything onto the network guys. I haven't received any indication that our IPC or regional network infrastructure is congested in the South. Our people testing in Cape Town did not report any packet loss or poor performance last night, but I am happy to stick around and get them to replicate any tests you've run to confirm if this is a general issue or not.

very few users on this forum are posting a good experience, if this is acceptable to Afrihost then its a problem. So what is Afrihost doing about my issue? I posted my test results as you always ask, but nothing gets done about it. has anyone contacted Telkom on my behalf as I pay you for my line?

Now here is my Quote on previous Post

Last time before this Snap Shot when it happend I quickly change to 1GB Capped Test Account on Afrihost and it went Full Speed?
Change back to Business Account, then it was dead again..

Also I did say.. My test was only running P2P the hole time of the day.. Nothing else was done on my network during the P2P test I did.. only the speed test between 20:00 and 22:00 as I mark it in my Snap Shot of the Graph..

Could anyone please check out this link, my friend says it works 100% but for me it looks half loaded.

Just remember that we base our decision on feedback from our social media channels, support floor and clients we've engaged with directly to test for us in different regions. Going simply by MyBB wouldn't be representative of our entire client base at all.

I did comment on the results you've posted, they definitely don't indicate to me that the problem is on our side.

We don't shape Business. If we did ever decide to institute Business shaping, we would inform our clients first of a change to our AUP and give them fair warning of when that change would come into existence. As the product currently stands, it is not shaped. As I've said, we need to do further testing to determine why your throughput was underperforming at that time :(
