Afrihost New Network Feedback

I love the new network - but since the weekend, I cannot seem to get any speed out of Steam.

I've been downloading a 4.4 GB game from Steam for the last 26 hours and it is still not complete

My speedtest results : http://www.speedtest.net/my-result/4838624134

I am on 4mb Uncapped - I got 3Mb/s down but Steam insists on being between 20 and 40Kb/s all the time - this started about Friday night / Saturday

I am connecting to the Johannesburg Steam server (Cape Town did the same) and I live in Blairgowrie. All other downloads and services are at full speed.... anyone else have this problem?

If your general download speeds are good, there is no reason why Steam downloads from a local cache should be slower. Were you definitely pulling from local? Any tests that I can look at?

Can you keep an eye on this and report if you see this happening again? We'll need to test with you.

Are you running this non-standard, like custom DNS or anything like that?
Nope, everything is AH issued.

Will keep an eye out for it again.

My WA account is now capped but I was getting between 75 and 100ms ping less while watching Dota

I'm not aware of any general problems with Twitch from last night, except for the report I replied to here.

What were your general results like last night?

I was watching in-game last night, didn't really have any issues. Pings were hovering around 300 (normal, I think?). But now this morning I am working from home, so can't exactly sit in front of my gaming PC, so using Twitch on XBone to watch some streams. It's up and down though, from average to bad.

We haven't tested specifically on Xbox yet, depends if it uses a different routing path than over PC or Mobile.

I just tested Twitch for like 15/20min and it is running on source no buffering

I swear the inconsistencies in the AH network are going to drive me to alcohol... You guys should buy me some nice KWV 15 year

And you need to share it with me.

We're definitely monitoring Twitch very closely to make sure it's one of the services that we benchmark performance on.

That's horrible. I'm not aware of any general auth issues last night, my connection definitely didn't seem to go down.

Can you drop me a PM so I can check your account? :(

Will send you a PM.

Progress Report (or sumfink like that):

It's been days of Internet bliss now without speed going down or any unwelcome surprises (/me knocks on wood) + enjoying our freeeeeee 114 gigs, we hardly know what to do with so much awesomeness. Oh well, guess I need to test a lotta new Linux distros soon if H-wood doesn't deliver enuff decent movies. Thx AH for both, it's awesome and more than welcome. Thx a bunch, ok?

Really awesome to hear it :D

I've done enough trouble shooting to know the problem. The problem is the AH international connectivity.
Local is always perfect: http://www.speedtest.net/my-result/4839372999
International on the other hand is never consistent. Can see it on FTP downloads but more frustratingly when watching Twitch. Kind of hoping pointing out the issue when it happens would help.
So for example today at 13:28 I went from streaming source perfectly all the way down to medium (even that is actually buffering.)
