Nah, just the mention of concrete shoes made to order was enough to get that button unstuck.:D

We're also sending 2x DSLs and 1x Womens, as you mentioned these were priority to you :p
Please accept our sincerest apologies sir.

:( speed is fine on my 4mbps line, but latency is pretty bad still.

Going to give the Telkom test account a go and see what happens

Telkom Test account no better. Guess congestion is a bummer right now

Interesting congestion where your download speed isn't being affected.

I have no connection this morning as in at all... It's a slight problem seeing as I am working from home today. I restarted my router and changed dns to google, but nothing. Please help.

Is your modem syncing with the ADSL line?

I am seriously stumped with my connection. Syncs fine, speed is very good both on the down(3.6mbps) and up(0.40mbps) yet latency is between 200 and nearly 400ms

My WiFi signal is also good

I'm ready to see what a new Ethernet cable might do.

Anybody in the Cape area that might have a spare router lying around perhaps, as that is also something I want to check

I'm either going to have to live with it, or log a fault with Telkom, or get pizza :D

Btw the other issue I'm thinking, is that it could just be my Android media player which is destroying the Line. This is high on my watch list, which is why I need to find a pc or laptop for a few hours to see what my ping is.

Question:
Short Ethernet cable with long telephone line, or long Ethernet cable with short telephone line?

Or
Both short?

Ie distance from router to where ever it needs to be connected? Trying to find every possible angle here

it's very weird, you would usually see a drop in speeds if there was something using the bandwidth to the point that latency is affected. It may just be a quirk of how your exchange is accepting ping. We saw this on our POC network that traceroute latency showed as much higher than direct pings.

Where are you seeing this actually manifest in terms of affecting your experience?

As a general rule, shorter cables mean less chance of induction or electromagnetic interference to signal. Depends on the lengths though, if you're talking only a few meters (and not like 20-30 meters) then I don't think this is a significant factor.

I don't do gaming, I only stream YouTube and a few other things, and this is via an Android media player as my pc burnt out. My phone and my sons phone is the only other connection via WiFi, and he dowmloads a few games and me just whatsapp. So nothing else major.

I'm not sure how bad latency would affect live streaming say of something, as compared to online gaming though. The only thing that is happening, is that things take a minute or so to connect. Eg on my media player, I have the weather on it. When switching on the media player, it will take a minute to give me that weather update.

But as said, the speeds as seen below is pretty good, but the latency is horrendous

AfriMan, it seems like a general outage in the area. No service call has been logged with hellkom.

Hi, I am based in Durbs. Pings to London game servers are around 30-40ms higher than usual compared to other ISPs. The conenction is more stable but eish, 40ms is a lot of lag.
