No issues for me too but I didn’t expect anything else. :)

I want to upgrade my free 1GB account to a 100GB capped account at R199.

This is the pro-rata message I receive in the Clientzone:

I understand that I will be charged R199.00 pro-rata for this change as well as receive a pro-rata data allocation of 99.00 GB

Is this correct? Will the data expire end of next month?

It is odd. Have you tried to add another account and not use the change option?

Are you a NOOB or do you have some history to work on?

It's for my sister who's moving in to a new place so no history of her usage really, but her main use will be streaming, she's not getting DSTV. Based on my usage I guess that she'll be using less than 100 GB per month, maybe I should just start her off with 50 GB capped then see how it goes?

According to Netflix, the usage is 1 gb per hour for SD and 3 gb per hour HD for streaming.

Hi,

Need some help, line has been really slow for a couple of days, see speedtest result:

Account is 2mb capped account

I stream Netflix almost every day for a hour or 3, though I don't monitor my data usage down to the MB, I can say that I'm definatly not consuming 1 GB per hour even when streaming HD. I don't have Showmax anymore, but I remember Showmax being a lot more data hungry than Netflix.
They probably only give those numbers as worst case to cover themselves.

Those MSANs can support multiple modulation types though. I was connected to a MSAN for ages but was on ADSL2+ modulation. I phoned telkom and they literally took 1 minute and changed it over to VDSL but the difficult part is getting someone to do that as most of them will just say they cannot do it for some odd reason.

MSAN's basically do ADSL 2+ and VDSL. Changing modulation is a feature that has been removed from some call centre staff, but if your line is with us we can request it via the Wholesale service centre :)

Looking at 4 MB ADSL speed, will be used for streaming and general internet browsing, no gaming, no heavy downloading, what will you guys recommend, 100 GB capped or a home uncapped account? The price difference is less than R50, I doubt whether the person will use 100 GB per month even if on uncapped.
My first thought is that capped will be better, no throttling, no restrictions?

Streaming should work equally well on Capped and Uncapped, because we don't shape streaming on Premium. However, Home may not suit you if you don't want to be throttled. We're not finding that we need to do much throttling since we're managing demand very well, but maybe look at those options. It comes down to what you plan to use every month. I would say Uncapped may be the better option for you if you're streaming all the things and don't ever want to top up :)

Is anyone else having problems with torrents? Mine starts, goes at full speed, after 30 seconds dies and bobs along at 2kb/s. (I'm on a 2mb capped line). If I stop and start it it goes full speed then dies again. Been doing this for a few days now.

No issues that I was aware of. Didn't do a lot of torrents but when I tested on Friday and Saturday internet was running great for the North. Which region are you in?

This morning the connection is super slow, even the speed test timed out. Not normal for Afrihost to be having issues.

Torrents for me was running at 655kb/s compared to Vox that ran at below 100kb/s.

Apologies I'm in the Cape Area
