You're probably using Unotelly as your DNS. Unotelly is pretty much dead in the water for their local DNS servers. I'd suggest you switch to your ISP default DNS and you'll find your issues resolved (if you're an Unotelly user - if not, you'll need the assistance of the afrireps)...

Thanks for the help here DJ - Appreciate it!

I'm in the South and am having massive connectivity problems at present. Almost no sites are loading and the ones that do take ages to do so. Started just recently. Anyone else experiencing the same thing? @AfriGuy, any ideas?

As mentioned above it sounds like it could be related to issues Unotelly are having with their DNS. Best idea is to either change to our standard DNS or possibly try Google's DNS. Remember if you change the DNS its best to switch you router off for a while and then restart it.

I'm not as clued up as the AfriLegends though - I'm sure they'll swoop in on this in the morning and help you out if you are still having problems.

I am indeed. A friend of mine is as well, and he had exactly the same problem last night. Seems to have been fixed now, but it's happened numerous times over the past few months.

What, specifically, is wrong with their local servers?

Hey Lara!

First, I am a huge fan - I am sincerely grateful for the incredible way you have always supported us. Thank you.

Secondly, my eldest daughter's favourite pony is Rainbow Dash, so there's no doubt she would also be a big fan of yours.

Third, to answer your question: I am at my happiest when our AfriReps are not busy at all. So I do everything in my power to make sure they have nothing to do ;-)
I'm speechless... almost. :D

It is not difficult to support someone when they do everything right. Keep doing what you are doing and I wish that you go from strength to strength. :)

I opened a support ticket with Unotelly. Since I only watch Netflix on my AppleTV and PS3, I suppose a workaround would be to change the DNS settings on the individual devices as well as my router and after I logged in on Quickstart to update my IP, to remove it on the router so my normal browsing won't be affected.

Side issue: Do you perhaps know if BBC Iplayer is available on the Apple TV?

a little OT here but didnt AH used to have a "DynDns" type feature that could be activated?

I'm satisfied at this point with my Afrihost account, please don't change anything.

Axxess had something like that but it was ultimately falling in a "grey" area and they had to withdraw that service. We can't directly provide or recommend any service that bypasses digital rights management :(

Just wondering how was it bypassing Digital Rights Management? What about a static IP though?

So the content creators sign distribution deals with content providers (like Netflix) to distribute in specific territories. By using a US service in SA that potentially infringes the distribution right of a local content provider (like Showmax) who have the right to sell the content in this territory. This is pretty serious, this is also why Netflix USA are cracking down on people bypassing DNS restrictions.

i think you getting a little confused with VPN, i want a static address so i can access my dynamically changing IP address?

Are you talking about dynamic DNS? So you can translate your username dynamically.

That should work. So if my username is [email protected] then it translates to afriman.ip.afrihost.co.za
