I'm not having problems using the Google DNS, but would preferably like to use yours. My only question is this, and I tried to change to yours only to get Connection errors. Thus I had to flush dns, re add the Google DNS restart pc and working again. Previously under the wifi adapter or settings, it was automatically find the ip and DNS. In this instance I had to manually assign the Google DNS.If I'm not mistaken, you should be able to name your host anything you like becuase that's only for local network IP allocation. That's not an IP that will be seen on the internet (your public IP is assigned by Afrihost and not your router). Telkom routers (for example) use 10.0.0.1, etc. If it's working, I don't think you'll have any problems![]()

Nah I know what the AH DNS are, just need to know in the router where to change it. I tried last night and got loads of connection errors and timeouts. All my other devices were okay, but PC somewhere I did something wrongSo you are just wanting the Afrihost DNS IP's?
169.1.1.1 and 169.1.1.2
re-read your postit's early in the morning ok!

So what should this be, as at the moment this is the only DNS that's giving me a working internet connection.
I tried changing it to the 169.1.1.1 of Afrihost, but didn't work, unless I put it in the wrong place.

Had no connection (ignore the virus bit, that is what I call my WiFi lol)
And had this error trying to open up a page via Chrome

So basically had to flush the DNS and restart the pc to get a connection again. I really don't want to use this 8.8.8.8 so if anybody can advise what the correct IP should be please and where I should enter it.

Thanks I'll try this tonight. Not sure why the LAN hosting is showing the Google DNS.Hi Iceman
Your lan host should be something like 192.168.1.1 or 192.168.0.1 or 10.0.0.1, DHCP enabled, then set your DNS to auto or 8.8.8.8 for google etc.
Gian, the addiction on Ask Gian is getting too much. Do you need professional assistance lol;-)
It is time. My bed calleth!

Every page on chrome wouldn't load, thus I had to manually in the PC change to this

Only then did I get pages loading again. All other devices were okay.
Any advantages of using the Google DNS?I can;t imagine these settings were set automatically so it's probably a manual change that happened at some time. You can always factory reset and then recreate your DSL settings if you don't have any custom settings![]()
Would like to thank Gian and his team (afriman and afriguy) for helping me get back on line again and for keeping me up to date about the issue via email, not only am I happy to be burning though my 100GB bundle and AH+ double data XD, I'm also very happy with the overall service !!!thanks guys (BTW line came back yesterday, they replaced the backbone copper cable which is nearly 2km in length lol.
As for the DNS issue, Unotelly seems to work just fine my side, streaming youtube at full 1080p no buffering and web pages load quick

Can someone explain to me how Afrihost calculates your data used. This is my third month with them and I still don't understand it. According to the graph I've used about 165 gigs of data in total for the month so far but night time data shows I've used 203 gig for just night time. I'm confused![]()
Afriman - please ask Genie to respond to my PM's? Sent him a couple now and no reply yet.
For sure - will do![]()
