Afrihost New Network Feedback

That's pretty weird. I see a few people reporting this same issue. We'll ask our network team what's happening - can't see why we're seeing Hetzner IP's :(

Why are you guys automatically assigning 129 range DNS from Hetzner? Surely this is not normal?

Now my line keeps disconnecting, more convinced it is all a snafu at Telkom. Why don't their diagnostic tests show them packet loss?

C:\Users\RemoteJHB1>nslookup google.com 129.232.169.40
DNS request timed out.
timeout was 2 seconds.

Server: UnKnown
Address: 129.232.169.40

On a test line in JHB on Afrihost, seems this new DNS server doesn't even resolve DNS requests.

Hhmm, OK.
So the tests they ran on their DSL line went OK?

With the router tested properly, it'll mean your line is the common point of failure here.

I think there is a problem at the exchange, all their tests will show them is that my internet is working at the spped i paid for, but wont show packet loss.

Hhhm, that's interesting. I'll bring this up with our network guys to see what's happening :)
If you reboot, are you assigned a different DNS server?

EDIT: Are you sure the IP is 129.232.169.40, and not 129.232.196.40?

Internet has been disconnecting with 0kbs of data coming through the line, and then suddenly working again minutes later. On and off.
Either this is an Afrihost problem or a Telkom problem. In either instance, the responsibility is on AFRIMAN and AFRIHOST to resolve, and resolve speedily.

There can be no other way.

:(

Happy to take a look at this for you.
Please send me a PM with your details.

My frustration now is in talking to Telkom, they just keep saying "do a speed test", they just dont understand packet loss. So how do you get them to fix it?

I hear you, which is why I referred to TelkomZA, they more jacked up there.

Ah OK!
If the voice line's active already a tech shouldn't need to come out again though.

Migrating the line over to us takes about 14 days, with a few hours downtime when the line's in the holding pool.

lol, it took me less than 2 days to migrate my line from Mweb to Afrihost:)

It can definitely go quickly, we generally go with 14 days though as some process can take that long :(
Still though, the migration is a pretty seamless one for clients.
