I gave him my phone number, my exchange is only ADSL2+ and not VDSL, therefore only 20mb.

My line isn't with you, just asking other forumites whether the stats will allow it or am I wasting my time.

Judging from the fact I'm getting a few errors (not that I notice any issues) now already on the 12mb profile, I'm sure 20mb will be risky.

Ah OK.
I reckon it's worth a shot - worst case, you'll sync at 12 or 14Mbps.

Hi guys

Seeing some strange things happen on the North IPC - we're checking things out.

That's a touch far - see if downgrading to 8Mbps helps though :)

Acording to https://fremnet.net/article/216/adsl-theoretical-speed-calculator
I'm 2317 meters from the exchange

Also looks like I'm on a 8 MB line now because my stats changed slightly, though speed tests is still under 4 MB.
Download Speed: 3944 kbps (493 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 380 kbps (47.5 KB/sec transfer rate)
Latency: 30 ms
Jitter: 6 ms
‎5‎/‎12‎/‎2016‎ ‎12‎:‎22‎:‎52‎ ‎PM

Current upstream is 765, downstream 8190
SNR up 10.8, down 6.3
Attenuation up 18, down 32

As said earlier via PM, me thinks my line is physically on a 4 MB port at the exchange.

The line's definitely up on a 10Mbps profile, but it's only syncing at 8Mbps - your router sync stats will confirm this too :)
If the throughput doesn't improve, it means that the area can't sufficiently support the higher throughput that your profile is requesting.

So are we just going to leave it here, won't it be worth asking Telkom to investigate what's up at the exchange?

Im on 20mbps, my router syncs and 20, but my speeds are around 6mbps :D Latency 10ms and Jitter 1.. Fun times AG

IMO, I'm sure Telkom can throttle a connection to protect latency when there is too much contention (congestion).

Why is there congestion on a "new" type exchange?

That is the question :D

Not at all.
My first recommendation was to downgrade to an 8Mbps profile to see if that helps.

Ok cool I'm on a 8 MB profile now, router stats and client zone confirms it, I also got a SMS from AH.
Speeds still the same so what's the next step?
Download Speed: 3898 kbps (487.3 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 398 kbps (49.8 KB/sec transfer rate)
Latency: 41 ms
Jitter: 1 ms

Have you tried requesting a port reset? Worth the shot...

AH did a port reset from their side last night already, but a physical port change at the exchange no. To be honest I think that's where the problem lies, at the exchange.

While your line's syncing at 8Mbps, it's still on a 10Mbps profile - so changing down to 8Mbps may help.
It means the line isn't constantly trying to sync at 10Mbps.

If that doesn't work, it simply means that your line/ area cannot sufficiently support higher throughput values.

Look on client zone, it says there I'm back on a 8 MB profile.
