Tested a few of the affected sites you're mentioning and things seem to look OK for me so far.
Can you post a few tests here please?

Specifically looking for a ping, traceroute or MTR.
The more info we have, the better we can diagnose.

I have a similar problem to Hummercellc. Facebook is a useful site to test with, so here are some results. The ping test is fine though:

$ ping -c 3 www.facebook.com
PING star-mini.c10r.facebook.com (31.13.91.36) 56(84) bytes of data.
64 bytes from edge-star-mini-shv-01-ams3.facebook.com (31.13.91.36): icmp_seq=1 ttl=79 time=179 ms
64 bytes from edge-star-mini-shv-01-ams3.facebook.com (31.13.91.36): icmp_seq=2 ttl=79 time=180 ms
64 bytes from edge-star-mini-shv-01-ams3.facebook.com (31.13.91.36): icmp_seq=3 ttl=79 time=182 ms

--- star-mini.c10r.facebook.com ping statistics ---
3 packets transmitted, 3 received, 0% packet loss, time 2000ms
rtt min/avg/max/mdev = 179.879/181.060/182.894/1.359 ms

the traceroute shows that traffic follows multiple routes:

$ traceroute www.facebook.com

I had a look at the page load times using Chrome's Developer Tools and they are, during the problem time (which seems to be between 6 and 8 pm especially) extreme. The url https://www.facebook.com took 1.2 minutes to load in one test. The page appears piece by piece - first the basic frame and then components like the chat interface and so on. The problem doesn't seem to be related to simple latency or packet loss, there is more than that going on here.

P2p absolutely useless. Anyone else?

And the connecting to peers bug is back again when using a magnet. Swapped to downloading the torrent file and it starts out, ~2kB/s though for 5 minutes and currently going at ~ 30kB/s. 1000 seeders, 300 peer torrent.

(10Mbps 150GB capped)

EDIT: just as I posted this it sunk to 2kB/s.

Yip, Internet is in the toilet tonight, everything is slow.
Yet speedtests, trace routes and pings are showing zero problems.
Almost as if ICMP is prioritised as well as http. Teamviewer not working at all, Facebook took over 2 minutes to open and Skype is horrid. I give up.

Thank you. Similar to my problem as well. This is really getting pretty annoying. Tomorrow will be asked for some tests or how other downloads were or what dns I am using.

To answer:

1. Sick of tests.
2. Other downloads (http) are also up and down. XBox One updates were slow yesterday. Google play store updates up and down.
3. Using auto dns assigned by isp (looks to be 169.1.1.4 & 154.0.174.82)

EDIT: 4 mbps Business Uncapped

I honestly reckon these are the ipc issues that come up every so often. For me these are similar symptoms as in the past.

Whatever it was, it seems my speed is back again, and latency is also good again.

Everyday at 22:00 streaming performance drops drastically

I'm watching a stream and the latency jumps from an already HIGH latency of 15 seconds all the way to 24 seconds, after a lot of buffering. :(

Really do not feel like posting tests everyday as this happens so much.

@ Jhonatan56,

Sorry for the late reply, decided it was best to walk away from my PC :p

@NewBiks,

I wish I had your connection ;)

BTW - I am on the East Rand (Gauteng) region, not sure if you in the same region.

I noted last night that a lot of the issues that I have been having the last week or so seem to have been resolved. Google Services were much better and I had no issues with Steam or the Division but thats all that I was testing really, too busy playing games. Will check again tonight.

Touch wood they stay away. Anybody have a railway sleeper ?

Looks like the weekend was mostly better, but some reports last night are definitely concerning. We're going to continue testing on our side until we're sure our clients are getting the experience we expect.

I'm having issues as of this morning.

MyBB works, everything else times out (Facebook, Twitter etc.)
Thought it was my XBOX ONE as that light is flashing on the router but everything doesn't work there too - the system messages are "can't do X update" - "can't do Y update" so I powered it off.

Sounds like local was fine but international problematic, which has been a symptom reported here by others. We're going to continue testing and trying to replicate this for analysis. AfriGuy and some of the other reps are handing over a ton of test results for the network team to look through as well :(

Maybe time to look at a more reliable upstream international provider?
International has never been great since the start of Afrigreen. The most annoying thing is the dropped connections to international services. Which happens regardless of the time of day.

Afriman & Afriguy, why are you shaping Cisco Anyconnect SSL VPN's to well known corporate and parastatal VPN servers ? It's extremely frustrating to have no choice but sit outside in this cold where there is 3G reception and work, because its too slow to even SSH over the VPN connected via the Afrihost connection.

We definitely don't shape any terminal services like SSH and VPN. We'll need to investigate and troubleshoot with you. Are these local or internationally hosted servers? :(

Can anyone tell me if I would be able to get 10 mbps on my line?
And if I can, would I need a vdsl router?

3c31ebeaac6264c72a3c44b5967f651a.jpg

Unfortunately I can tell from the connection stats. We'll need to check the DSLAM and SP restrictions in your area.

I can do that from your landline number- just drop me a PM.

Ok cool thank you. AH rep at contact centre said I would need a vdsl router to maintain a stable connection. I really hope I can get 10 mbps. Spoke to a Telkom Tech this morning (dealing with an issue on my line) and he said I can as they installed a new card yesterday and I am less than 1 km from the dslam. So now the investigation starts. Don't want to waste money so first want to do my homework properly.

You shouldn't need VDSL for 10Mbps under any circumstances, it's not offered on VDSL modulation - that's a strange bit of advice :(

What an awful experience trying to migrate an ADSL line to Afrihost. I've subsequently cancelled my ADSL line and data bundle with Afrihost, the service is frankly is so rank bad I'm surprised you guys still have clients left. According to the support person I spoke to (ref ULL-716-89553) the migration should have been done by Wednesday at the very latest. Why is nobody at Afrihost communicating with me or letting me know what is causing the migration delay.

It just makes me all the more angry as nobody at Afrihost informed me that I would stuck with a half functional 2mpbs ADSL line while waiting for the migration to take place which has now been dragging on for close to 3 weeks, it has been a real inconvenience. When Telkom finally cancelled the line we had a service disruption for 2 days. You should have it listed in bold when going through the options on the application screen that these type of things are involved in the migration process. It creates a total different expectation from a customer's perspective and I would not have migrated had I known otherwise. I never want to do business with your company ever again.

I'm sorry that this happened, this is generally not the case at all.

With Telkom's new Holding Pool system, the process can complete in a matter of hours, but delays in moving the line into the holding pool generally cause delays. We do our best to push from our side for this to happen.

I'd be happy to look into this for you, though I see you've said you've already cancelled everything. Since you've already gone through the hard part, I'd be grateful if we could chat about how we can turn this experience around :(
