Yeah... Latencies to South America are going to be very bad, traffic is routed through Amsterdam, London, New York, Houston, Mexico City then a few places in South America before it gets to Buenos Aries.

Could you try a Pingtest to a European or South African server?

Seems like I'm unable to choose a server myself on http://www.pingtest.net
This time, "choose your best server" came up with Cabo in Mozambique <<go figure>>

I kinda have to agree with AfriMan, this definitely looks like there is something on the line or at the Exchange that isn't happy at all.

How long have you been seeing this latency?

Try check your router stats for HEC errors. Could be a problem with your line. Does your phone sound okay?

I seem to be having streaming issues again ... ... is there another issue or is this POC just as pathetic @ streaming as vanilla AH ?

I mean really, I hate sounding like a broken record, but this is getting a bit much ... ... streaming works, then they break it ... then it works and they break it again ... ... I mean really ?

He isn't connected to an alcatel BRAS/BNG therefore cannot ping that IP. He'll be running on a Marconi DSLAM with ATM uplinks.

Steam downloads are really poor on both Afrired and Green Speedtest shows full speed regardless.

I'm streaming Youtube and Twitch quite well on my home connection at the moment. With which services are you experiencing issues?

The only 2 I use regularly is YT and Twitch ... ... both on my 10mbps line are buffering ... can't 720p on YT and get the occasional buffering on Medium on twitch ... sigh ...

Telkom checked my exchange and it's fine so I don't know what else it could be

And what bothers me the most is that it is inconsistent ... ... Some days I can steam 1440p and not buffer and other I can't stream 480p ... ... my exchange is fine, my line is good (had it checked) tried different equipment ... ... the only constant is the account

Wow... Has this been on an AfriGreen account?

Jip afrigreen indeed. The irony is that i decided to hang on to this account because i loved afrihost in the past and hoped afrigreen or afri whatever whould work out.... but no sigar!! Compared to Vox ...Not saying that Vox might sit with the same problem down the line , but at the moment it is like driving a ferrari compered to a old beatle

What's really strange is how when you I'm downloading from Steam at less than my line speed everything else is completely unusable yet on other ISP's its fine. This surely can't be lumped as QOS on my router's side...

Look at hop 1, your router is the problem here, Wireless Interference maybe.

Try ping 192.168.0.1 -t
Let it run for a couple of minutes then it ctrl-c
Afterwards try it again with a cable.

So I left Afrihost 2 months ago, I just want to ask the guys that stuck around...Are you happy that they are now operating in Beta mode indefinitely? Every Time something isn't well they just pass it ons as "We're testing!"

My experience with the POC Afrigreen setup has largely been good and I have just had five days straight where I have really had no real issues. (In Cpt area on 10Mbps line 50+50 capped)
My main use is streaming and I am consistently seeing speeds at over 8.5Mbps and regularly streaming in HD with no buffering. Latency still seems to be an issue but as I am not a gamer this doesn't really affect me much.
Now if they can only remain consistent and maintain this level of service.
I am holding thumbs that when they start migrating AH clients over that things don't go 'pear shaped' again.
I know that we, the customers, have all been royally screwed over with the lousy service but hopefully we are in for a better future.

This is a quote from a commenter on Tech Central to the article on MTN's takeover of AH.
"But to Gian Visser and his co-founders, who are grinning like muppets with their fists full of cash, it is clearest of all who the real winner is".

I'd say overall it's been good. Infinitely better than normal afrihost was over the past year.

There have been some issues in last couple weeks but when it's good, it's really good. Couple weeks back it was working at optimum level. If they can get back to that and have issues limited then definitely a viable product.

I get what you all are saying, and you guys are loyal, even though you are paying to be loyal. I was lucky to grad one of the Vox 100GB accounts. Not only is it cheaper than Afrihost, I have only had "pure internet joy" since I joined them. But I'm glad if you had a whole week of it I really hope your patience pays off!

I too have the VOX 100GB deal as my backup and agree that their service is awesome. I took it also for the fact that they carry over data that belongs to me as I have paid for it, something that AH seems not to 'get'.
I understand that the Consumer Council is going to expand it's investigation into Mobile networks Prepaid Data non carry-over to ISP's as clearly some ISP's are doing what the Network operators are doing:
“The network operators provide you with a month, whereas section 63 of the Consumer Protection Act says you must be afforded three years to consume the data,”

While the NCC investigation is studying terms and conditions of mobile contracts, or postpaid deals, the section of the Consumer Protection Act deals with terms such as ‘prepaid’.

Section 63 (2) of the Consumer Protection Act states:

“A prepaid certificate, card, credit, voucher or similar device contemplated in subsection (1) does not expire until the earlier of:
a) the date on which its full value has been redeemed in exchange for goods or services or future access to services or (b) three years after the date on which it was issued, or at the end of a longer or extended period agreed by the supplier at any time.”
