Afrihost POC Network - Afrigreen Feedback

And backup to full speed this end.
I am guessing Afrihost are testing their contention system.
So latency is not affected when nearing saturation on the IPC.

Still no sign of AfriBlue, so this whole beta testing could take a while it seems....

I believe Axxess have run some tests on AfriBlue, so it may end up that we won't test the network on our side unless the results are at least as positive as AfriGreen. If I get any confirmed decision on this, will let everyone know.

I see that feedback was mostly positive over the weekend, except for a few reports of poor speeds last night. I'm not aware of any changes at the moment, and it seems to have resolved (from the reports here).

We'll keep an eye on this from our side.

That looks a little off. We expect a little extra latency from Cape Town to Cape Town, becuase of not having local IPC, but not that much.

Can you post a traceroute for this?
I know to expect around 70ms to CT servers. I didn't do a trace route as I just changed to another ISP upon checking with the MyBB speedtest if Afrigreen would be OK, but that's very rare for a weekend. It was fine this morning again, but that's useless to me.

Definitely shouldn't have been that high.
If you notice a spike up in latency again would you mind grabbing a traceroute? It'll give us a good idea on where the additional latency is coming in.

Thanks AfriGuy

The POTS line is a white elephant - it is hardly ever used ;-{ But YES, there is sometimes some crackling audible - will try more filters

My modem/router (Dlink DSL-2750U), connected on ADSL_2plus mode, reports an SNR margin (dB) of 66-67 downstream and 120 upstream.

This seems to be 10 times what the Afrihost ClientZone ios App reports when I ask it to test my line:
Telkom Exchange (Downstream): SNR 11.00 dB
My Location (Upstream): SNR 5.00 dB

why this discrepancy, AfriGuy ?

Dlink router show line stats different from other routers,

Your line stats actually ready

Downstream

SNR=6.6 instead of 66
Attenuation= 47 instead of 470

Upstream=
SNR 12 instead of 120
Attenuation= 29.2 instead of 292

hope that clears things up

Weekend performance was horrible for me.

Saturday I phoned in they said it was congestion at the exchange but when I switched to my normal afrihost business account it worked fine.

Sunday during the day it was working fine up till 5pm when downloading went from 700kbps to 100kbps. Couldn't even stream low quality flash sites.

And now today there's the same issue that I was having all week last week during the week. Which seems hasn't been resolved.

My downloads running at 700kbps but when I'm downloading I can't browse at all. I keep getting error err timed out but as soon as I pause or stop my download then browsing works fine.

This is hugely frustrating.

.... We'd rather identify problems now than later down the line when we have all our clients on the network.

Afri*, if and when the remaining Afrihost clients are migrated across to what is now AfriGreen; is it possible we will then see any degradation due to higher utilisation on the AfriGreen capacity? I am just starting to get to like AfriGreen and would hate to see it degrade as the load is increased...

The experiences I've seen you post have been very up and down, which is odd.
Not sure if something else is going on here - did you manage to do any extensive testing over the weekend when you saw things take a dip?

I'm not sure when the entire migration will happen, Afriblue should still be up for testing - but nothing confirmed yet.
Increases in demand will always be there though, it's how any network will work - but one of the reasons we're running these POC tests is to manage that demand better than what we have in the past.

Yeah. it all started previous week Friday. Before that everything was mostly fine. Didn't have so much fluctuation.

Weekend problem was just slow speeds.

Saturday most of the day slow speeds. When I phoned in they told me it's congestion at the exchange because I had same issue with my web africa account but when I switched to my normal afrihost account everything was normal.

Sunday during the day everything was normal. Downloading, browsing, streaming, till 5pm. When speeds dropped considerably. Because they told me it was congestion at the exchange, I didn't do any testing.

Today is the same kind of issue I had during the week last week. Only happens during week days when downloads go at full speed but can't browse.

As soon as download speed drops or I specifically pause or stop the download then I can browse no problem.

I don't know what tests I can do for today's problem?

Afrigreen for me has been pretty meh espescially this last weekend

When playing World of Warships being getting the following issues

1. Constant Disconnects - sometimes 1 every 3 or 4 minutes
2. Huge lag spikes for up to 5 seconds at a time

Change to a 1GB capped account and the problems disappear
moved off my afrigreen account back onto the other account.

Would you be able to collect a few pings and traceroutes today please?

Hmm, I wonder if the game isn't being seen correctly and having it's packets dropped.
Have you submitted any feedback via ClientZone for our network team to check out?

Nope
But if you are looking for info the games website is www.worldofwarships.eu
Not sure why I was being shaped as I am on a Business ADSL profile, my line was not over 20% utilised

I don't think it's shaping, but traffic management will play a role in how things work regardless if the protocols aren't setup correctly from our end.
Have you tried disabling Business optimisation?
