Afrihost POC Network - Afrigreen Feedback

So can I ask - why does it seem to be affecting p2p (my own experience) and nntp (what others are posting) the most?
And LaraC doesn't seem to be affected at all.

I have to be brutally honest, I'm not fully versed in how the Afrigreen network handles contention and high bandwidth demands. I'll need to find out from the Team.

From what I understand the network management software will attempt to ensure that everyone has the best possible experience on their connection, but as to what exactly happens to ensure this, I can't say yet.

Not so great tonight. I've let it run for four minutes.

Ok I understand you need to find that out. But if that is the case - then that would be classified as shaping wouldn't it?
Or is this the whole shaping vs prioritising vs managing debate again?

I don't even want to speculate until I've had a sit down with the Team. Bad things happen when assumptions are made with partial information.

Fair enough. Please can you let me know the outcome if that discusssion? I am sure I am not the only one interested.

Alright guys, I'm out for the day. AfriGenie will be along shortly to field everyones questions :)
Here's a reminder of what's happening going forward for the guys jumping on this thread this evening.

Chat tomorrow :)

Hey guys

The network guys have given us an update on the Afrigreen POC.

The feedback and participation of everyone here is vital to everything that has got us this far, and both the network team and all the reps are supremely grateful for everyone’s contribution.

We’ve now come to the end of the POC phase and are preparing to move into production. We have already started implementing the infrastructure required to have points of presence (IPC) in 3 regions (North, South & East).

We believe that LAB simulations aren’t always a true reflection of how we use the internet so part of the POC required that we simulate a constrained network.
Due to physical limitations on the physical Network Core Equipment we cannot upgrade the POC IPC capacity but we’re very excited that the new Network Core Equipment is being deployed and will soon be ready for use.

We’ll keep Afrigreen running and we’ll migrate it to the new production network over the next few weeks (in October). We’ll be sending out official communications early next week (from Gian, our CEO) with more accurate dates.
Till then, our team will continue running tests on Afrigreen with intentions of making the migrations as smooth as possible.
You can still use your afrihost.co.za ADSL username on the MTN network and we’ll let you know once we’ve migrated Afrigreen to the new network.

We’re very grateful to have had the opportunity to drive demand on the POC as high as possible to simulate conditions in the real world, like if we experience a major loss of IPC capacity. This has been extremely valuable to the team to be able to test scenarios and network policies that will ensure that we provide the best experience we can under difficult conditions.

Again, we’d like to thank everyone for testing, providing feedback and just being part of this awesome new phase of Afrihost’s development as a service provider. We’re honoured that so many have been so diligent in their feedback both here and via ClientZone, you’ve made a huge contribution to the new network!

I'm not sure if you saw this post earlier today from AfriGuy, we're aware of the issues with Afrigreen and working hard to mitigate the performance as much as possible, but things may not be running as well as Afrigreen has been for the next few days.

Understatement of note.

P2P doesn't bother me at all if it is slow or not. Things like YouTube, browsing and updates works perfectly. :)

Well ain't that great ... Wait for debit order day and once the coffers are full, turn the performance on its head ...

Got that time out message 8 times trying to run a speedtest

Rather just give my money back for the month, I will go to Vox, at least there I can do more than just stream (as much as I complain about not being able to stream, being only able to stream is kind of useless)

:::EDIT:::

Starting to wonder if I will ever get to play MGSV - Been trying to download it for around 72 hours now

:::EDIT:::

AfriRed looking pathetic as well

Can you send me your ADSL username quickly please, although Afrigreen hasn't been great, the performance hasn't been great in the early evening, you should not be seeing a lack of performance for that long.

Done.

Just tested my 1gb WA account and it runs full speed ... Tested a VOX account and it also runs full speed

:::EDIT:::

I have 1.4GB left of the download and it says 8 hours remaining
