Still ... doesn't explain your 1/8 theory and the burst speed theory
It's isn't my theory. Did you even read the comment? It's explained for you. At least now we've learnt something. kbps and kBps are not the same thing.

Sorry AfriMan for cluttering your thread :erm:

Dude, you said not possible to get full line speed, on WA I was getting 1MBps download speed, 1069kbps ... that is max is it not ?

Again? This is what confuses people. 1049kbps is not 1MBps. 1MBps is 8000kbit. Let's leave it as a misunderstanding between Uppercase B and small b. Yes on a 10mbit line you should be getting 1.12MB/s ideally.

10240kbit with 0.875 overhead is 8960kbit / 8 to get to bytes and you have 1.12MB/s.

Morning :)

Overall I am seeing much better results ... so lets hope this keeps up.

Question though:

Speedtests showing me getting a max of like 8MBps while WA shows pretty much full line speed.

Download speeds on both P2P and FTP seem to be around 150kbps slower on AG than WA/VOX ... ... Is this just a teething issue ?

Great to hear things are looking up.
Would you be able to paste some results here?

If you have a 10Mbps line & account is should max out at around 1MB/s. Lots of factors can change that though.

OK, OK enough with the nit-picking! Talking about 'Burst Speed' this is what SAIX speedtest gave me last night:
Last Result:
Download Speed: 88996 kbps (11124.5 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 853 kbps (106.6 KB/sec transfer rate)
Latency: 51 ms
‎2015‎/‎10‎/‎16‎ ‎12‎:‎25‎:‎36‎ ‎AM
This on a 10Mbps line in Cape Town! Man that is nearly 90Mbps download speed.

Morning All

As you may now, we're having some issues with our main DSL network. AfriGreen users should not be affected at all. Please stay on AfriGreen for the moment and things should be perfect.

Thanks for all the awesome feedback, the guys are very happy that the migration seems to have gone really well :)

i loaded data on my afrigreen account , but it loaded on my normal account. Can we fix this please?

Fair enough on the burst speed. I have never heard of that being a thing. So I'll plead ignorance on that. The argument wasn't about the burst speed though.

Difference between bits and bytes is the difference between left and right. That's not nit-picking.

Hi Afrihost

I am experiencing the problems with your main DSL netowrk, how do I switch to Afrigreen since you mentioned no problems on it.

What's the ETA for everybody being cut over to the production network?

Have some people been moved over to the new network? I am getting a consistent 1Mb/s on steam downloads, makes for a nice change, I might have to cancel my cancellation before the end of the month.

Think they've upgraded their IPC in preparation for all the other users to be moved over (which hasn't happened yet)

Alright so you guys came through with Workd of Tanks and Armoured Warfare. No more packet loss and ping.

Twitch however is still spotty. :(

Yes, a few clients have been moved over due to current IPC issues.
Glad to hear you're seeing good speeds here!

Awesome sauce :D
Bummer about Twitch though - last tests I ran things looked pretty solid. I'll get it checked out once the current IPC mania is fixed up.

Yeah it's weird. YouTube will constantly sit at full speed but Twitch goes up and down all over the place when watching past broadcasts. The VOD I watched had an average Source bitrate of 3000kbit, my line is capable of 3500kbit but due to the spikes it can't maintain a 3000 average.

I'm starting to think Twitch requires a much faster line than it actually needs, to stream comfortably.

Twitch is definitely bandwidth heavy. Let's run some tests a bit later :)
