Hey guys

Signed up for a Afrihost 1GB trial account to test out if I would be happy with their service before I sign up for a contract account (which may still happen if I can fix this issue)

My issue is that I am trying to use the details they provided me to dial through a PPPOE connection.
I have phoned the support number to verify that my details are definitely correct AND activated.

Yet I get thrown this error..
Is anyone else using PPPOE connections with Afrihost, if not why?

Would I require a service name entry to be put in before connecting to their network?
(Yes my router allows PPPOE pass through I can dial through Telkom & MWEB accounts)

I can connect, just tried. I don't know if you are comfortable doing this, but maybe you could change your access password from within your client zone and PM me your temporary details, so that I can check if I am able to connect.

I don't know if there is some rule against this...?

Sometimes you have to try it a few times with Afrihost. With me, it almost never connects the first time.

Thanks for the replies I have tried it a couple of times still throwing this error telling me my details are incorrect.

Does it matter that on my router I am running a MWEB account that many other users are using through the network, keep in my mind this is only my computer attempting to dial through to Afrihost via PPPOE?

Sorry to hear that you are battling to connect. Please drop me a PM so I can check your logs to see why you're not getting online. It sounds to me like it may be a password issue, but let's be 100% sure :)

In Jan/Feb this year, I had a problem accessing their Client Zone to check data usage, even in Chrome. It had been working all the time up until then, also on a free account.

I sent them a no of emails over a few weeks, and every time all they did was e-mail my current data usage, but no-one bothered resolving the problem until one fine Sunday in Feb.

The person who phoned me was Emmanuel - he found my Client Zone username/password had lost authentication with their system, and resolved it in a few minutes.

Try addressing a mail for his attention, or if you phone them, ask for him to check for an authentication fault re your issue. Even though they've setup your A/c & claim it to be active, this might also be the problem.

You shouldn't need a special ISP service name to log on via PPPoE to Afrihost.
If you have pass through set-up correctly, you should be able to make a no. of connections on PC & override the one in your modem/router.

Thanks for the feedback guys, I have sent AfriMan a PM with my details hopefully he can check the authentication on the account to see if something wasn't activated.

I am very keen to check the quality of the network as I am highly considering moving away from my current Hellkom ISP in the next week or so.

You wont be disappointed! Afrihost is the best ISP I have ever dealt with!

Cool man I'm hoping so, once I get this function fully working I will test it for myself and make the decision,
I've heard only but great things about Afrihost.

When you signed up for the account you had to enter a phone number on which you are going to use it. Is that the line you are trying to use the account on? Because if not you will get that message.

You say your router allows pass-through. Have you made sure you've selected "PPPoE with Pass-Through" and not vanilla "PPPoE"?

No I'm currently not at that location of which I signed up at (At my work address at the moment)
If I change this number to my work number would this make a difference really?

@YingYang yes dude I have definitely selected PPPoE pass through as I connect with Telkom / MWEB accounts all the time.

You can just create another account with the number you are using at the moment using the same email address. I had the same problem and that solved it for me.

There's your problem! It should work once you arrive home. The trial is locked to your number. Good thinking 7h3Ch3353

Thanks guys for the feedback, doing some testing on Afrihost tonight, looking good..
