Atm my afrihost account is suspended (which is normal as I've yet to change to credit card payment)
However when I logged in just now to check my remaining balance, it appears I owe R295.
I know I owe R145 for teh 5 gig topup but I looked at the invoice at they are charging me R150 for a reconnection fee.

What this afrihost ?!?!?! I've never had this before!

anyone?

I sent a support ticket, plus I told them how I was billed twice for February... :/

Don`t worry, everyone that has a afrihost account are going to pay the R 150.00 reconnection fee. Afrihost, are you mad for charging R 150.00 or is it the new scheme to make more money out of us?

Nope, just buying bandwidth.<snip>
Damn!
I don't see anything in their T&C about that, but I'll re-look.
Dude, perhaps it's time to move to another ISP.

EDIT: Yup - in black and white:
In the case of an ADSL or hosting account being suspended due to non-payment a reconnection fee of R150.00 will be payable before the ADSL or website account is unsuspended.

Using debit orders = FAIL, every time, for both the company and the client, but a big PHAT win for the greedy banks.

ouch. sorry man. if you are a long standing customer who normally was up to date i would suggest talking to them and see if they are willing to waive it.

It wasn't that. It's because I didn't have my VISA card when I signed up and I had to use my debit card. When my debit orders bounced because of lack of funds, I paid using my visa card no problem.

Trouble is that I didn't know banks charged for bounced debit orders!

How could you not know though? Did the debit order agreement you signed not mention the terms and conditions?
Perhaps you can try to claim back all these fee's from the bank through the banking umbudsman - it will take about 5 months, but it could be fun.

this makes no sense, afrihost wont incur a cost for a bouncing debit order, but your bank will charge you!

1) Banks charge 10% or something to the company requesting it afaik.

2) It was in their terms that you uaccepted

3) I see no problem charging people extra for admin etc after a non-payment. 1 Year,1 month, standard rate to reconnect

4) I think there is more here than meets the eye,i've been emailed for nonpayment and sorted it out quickly enough, perhaps you didn't receive notices due to a spam filter etc?

Well for about 6 transactions my debit orders were bounced, but I paid them off using my VISA card no problem. Afrihost told me over the phone that it costs them money everytime a debit order was bounced thus they have to charge a reconnection fee.

I asked the lady to switch my payment to Visa so this problem never happens again. Fingers crossed.

Can't really blame them for the fee as they do indeed take a financial knock when a client's debit order bounces. Only fair for them to make the client pay for it in the reconnect fee. Plus it is in their T&C's so they not duping.
