Afrihost shaping business uncapped

I am on 8Mbps uncapped business. From 8:30pm until 10:30pm every night for the last few weeks my torrents drop to about an eighth of their normal speed and I can no longer game as my ping jumps to around 900ms.

Speedtest works fine and swapping to Webafrica account works perfectly so it isn't line congestion. I have made sure that setting Business optimisation is disabled. In client zone it says no shaping applied but this is happening consistently every day.

Is any one else on business experiencing this?

When I signed up for this package there were two options: home (shaped) and business (unshaped).

Afri-man/dude/guy are you shaping uncapped business packages at peak times?
 
They probably shape P2P on uncapped accounts they all do.
 
Don't forget, AH never "shapes" uncapped business, they "optimize" certain protocols. Apparently, there is a difference. Anyhoo, this is why I stopped being a customer some time ago. It's been flogged to death going back the years or more now.

Do you run a business? I know DJ from Crystal Web advised users that the business uncapped are packages are designed differently, and that users should opt for their premium home packages. Afrihost has a home uncapped, Home premium and business uncapped.

Sorry to hear about the issues here, definitely sound like an odd one.
Shaping shouldn't be affecting latency, however shaping isn't applied to Business accounts so I think we can pretty much rule that out.

Would you be able to paste some test results over in our network feedback thread when you do see the issues creep in please? That thread is monitored closely for feedback. Thanks :)

I don't actually have the energy for this.

Situation:

1. Afrihost 8Mbps uncapped business for 2-3 years
2. 8:30pm - 10:30pm every night cannot torrent, stream or game
3. Can torrent, stream & game perfectly on Webafrica & Crystal Web uncapped during these times

Therefore not line related.

4. AfriGuy says not shaping (I believe AfriGuy)
5. I'm not looking to troubleshoot or fix the network, I just want to play rocket league f*kin now

There, I'm done. If it pisses me off again after tonight I'll move to Crystal web. Kllaaaaaaaaaaaaaarrrrrrrrrrrrrr

6. It's a monumental f*kin mystery of the universe never to be solved.

As frustrating as this is, you'll need to post a traceroute here so we can see where the latency is being introduced.
Let me know how you'd like to proceed.
 
Ok, il solve you problem.

GO to your clientzone and look for business optimization and turn it off!

They dont apply any shaping or throttling to any protocol on a business line unless business optimisation is on.

I have issues with Rocket League and Afrihost aswell, I just took out the same package as you because I was fed up with the premium bundle that gets throttled and ROcket league ping is 900ms :O

Definitely no throttling, but I'd really like to see where this latency comes in - please post some test data here.

It's not just an Afrihost problem, I have a normal cheap uncapped 10mbps from Afrihost and the standard 50GB Telkom account and BOTH are poked at night between roughly 7PM and 11PM ... the afrihost for browsing and torrents and the telkom for just browsing. Been trying to discover for weeks what it could be but no joy. Even my MOM has been seeing many complaints on facebook and the like , which is completely broken at night ... just loads and loads and loads ....
EDIT: Have multiple PCs here with Windows 7 and 10 ; the latter seems to be worse, windows 7 will eventually load the pages, strangely.

Why don't you do us ALL a favour, and STOP your torrenting during peak hours?

I've scheduled mine to happen automatically from midnight to 6am (6 hours!) and I've got plenty to watch. Why don't you do the same?

In that way the service providers have a slightly better chance at actually providing service to the rest of their customer base....

Should I do my gaming and streaming from midnight to 6am too?

Honestly though my torrenting is akin to streaming in that I want to watch something, then let it download while I make dinner (+- an hour), then watch. I don't want to torrent for 6(!) hours a night or plan my viewing schedule days in advance. If streaming worked at these times and SA had a quality service on offer I would just use netflix or whatever instead of torrenting.

But in any case Andrew this is private business not a question of social responsibility (I'd be happy if it was but then telkom and isps couldn't milk us for every cent). The point is about getting what you pay for without being misled, not improving the community through cooperation. As I said to afriguy I don't want to launch into a 3 month journey to improve afrigreen through troubleshooting or what have you, I want what is advertised and what I pay 1.5K a month for. Bottom line my usage habits are not of anyone's concern as I do not abuse the network. Please do me a favour with your primitive assumptions.
 
I'd like to redact my statements in this thread,my business line is also suffering with torrenting.Last night utorrent sat there doing nothing from 9-11pm(went to bed at 11), all torrents were 0(0).This morning everything was done!
