Is it normal to get speeds up to 138K/sec or lower during daytime on a 4mb uncapped account?

Affirmative... I have mutlitple accounts with afrihost. Capped and uncapped. Every single one of them is failing. These accounts are used in offices around the country and they are all failing. I will be cancelling all my accounts with them as of next month.
Afrihost you started a good thing and I was happy to sing your praises when you did. But since this uncapped thing started you guys are coming stone last. You are unable to provide even the basic services attributed to your capped services.

Except for the speed issues...
This month my friend had xxxMM left on his AH account, so he started downloading something
which was xxxxMB, thinking that as usual when his cap is reached (since he has no automatic topup)
it would just cut off.
Instead it did not and he received a message saying the exceeded value downloaded past his cap
will be taken from next month.:wtf:

Whats up with these okes!!!

My line speed on Afrihost has also ground to a virtual halt. As much as I appreciate their previous efforts in bringing down broadband costs I can't tolerate paying for a 4MB line and having to wait for SD youtube videos to buffer! Unless things improve I will also be bailing at the end of the month.

OK, this is then confirmed.....just bad service from AH....why did I ever signed up with them
Anyone knows whether I will get a refund if I cancel my account?

Well,

I have an uncapped account. 384k. I did say on the topic i started that it really seems to be a 4mb user thing. My line is flying. way over 384k... and i have a 512k line. going at about 40kb average.

Question is where were you downloading from, because certain ports are shaped more aggressively during the day ?

Was about to start a thread about this. Its ridiculous, I am getting speeds of 10 kBps (384k), and when I complained they said it was my side that was the issue.

Feel like a complete idiot now, because I decided to stay on with afrihost uncapped as they were performing decently towards the end of the month. Should have expected afrihost to pull a dirty trick out of their budget hat.

Here comes another month of ****ty speeds and I am prolly gonna have to buy BW again this month even though I have a uncapped account.

So you saying if I changed the port my bittorrent is using from 28264 to something else, it would go faster? One thing though, I am streaming on my browser but it is still going lank slowly surely that means it isnt a port problem?

i just switched from afrihost 10gb capped account to uncapped and immediately i can see that the speeds are suffering quite badly. youtube is sloooooooow. this sucks. is there a way i can switch back without paying extra?

Hey Fransman, ive also wanted to know if its normal to get those speeds during the day. This morning at around 6:30 i downloaded files from rapidshare which went up to 189 K/sec ...seemed like it maxed out at that speed so i decided to put two files to download at once and both downloaded at around +-189 K/sec. During the day however it was going from 110 to 130 to 160. Every now and then...if im lucky, i'll find a rapidshare file download at around +-231K/sec. As for streaming video on youtube...its a joke to me! im trying to view a 47second video right now and it played for a few seconds and started to buffer! I guess streaming HD is out of the question for me. If Mweb provides better streaming and download speeds then i think may jump ship.

No problems this side - happy as a pig in s***
I download all my stuff via Rapidshare
Getting speeds consistently at +400 KB/s on Rapidshare(I usually only download in evenings after 8.00.pm or on week-ends)
I even tested out a news server last month and was getting speeds of +300 KB/s in the evenings
Been on uncapped since inception and had no problems at all(except for Seacom)

The thing about MWeb, is that they shape you during work hours, but afterwards you get normal speeds and will continue to do so unless you download something like 200 gigs which I def wont dl. So I, like many other have done already, going to leave and join them

Well my youtube vids fly during the day on mweb, i would worry if i could not stream youtube  pirate shyte yes during the day it will be bad.

I get full speed on http downloads during the day on a 384k line, but horrible speeds on other ports, probably a 4Meg thing

Try our uncapped offerings. Although we also use the IS backbone, we do not add extra shaping from our side. We also offer value-added extras such as rapdileech.co.za and torrentflux.co.za. By using this services, you download from our servers unshaped. PM me for more info or visit www.trltech.co.za.

yeah damn i really dont know watsup with afrihost...i guess i was just being content with the speeds i was getting since i only signed up a month ago. Strange thing been happening on my side though.....and this happens on random days....after about 6 or 7 in the evening my speed goes like sh** , i was downloading a file from rapidshare now and it started at a wonderful 22K/sec, went up to 45K/sec and then down to 22 again.....eish! Sometimes i wonder if sharks are biting the seacom cable...lol.. :)
