Afrihost-Slow Speeds?

I cant actually take this anymore, my downloads are going at a speed of 0.2 kBp/s and my streaming just as bad. They say it starts off with standard port shaping, surely that doesn't include shaping torrents to death?

I'm on a 4mb line and my torrent speeds are not too bad, but my youtube is dog slow! Any streaming for that matter is not up to 4mb par!

And the so called 24h support is non existent. Logged a problem in the evening about my account being locked for no reason, and only got a reply the next day!

I have just canceled my AH account and moved to WebAfrica's Titan 2 deal.

I think torrents are shaped to death from megabyte 1 !!! Thats why I use Hotfile exclusively, I usually have 5 files going at once. I have noticed multi-thread downloads are way faster too. This morning I did one episode of a series that I like, took about 5 minutes for 175mb. This was on my uncapped account. PM me what you are trying to download and the app you are using, so I may test speeds / performance from my side.

anything better than Screamer is ok with me!

I still need to know if I cancel now will I get a refund?
At this moment speeds up to 2mbps......in April speeds I enjoyed full speed most of the time.

Well I just have to share this, this is totally crazy for me.
I have been battling the last few days with extremely high latency and I was going off at Afrihost and IS, I sincerely apologise guys!!!

Well tonight after much reading and trial and error I found the FU**ING culprit!!
A setting in my router.
Now I have not changed anything or any of these setting on my router, i don’t know if it was always that way, or if by some fluke it happened, anyways.

I have TP-LINK TD-8840 router

Under Advanced Setup and DSL there are a bunch of tick marks to select modulation.
Any case the culprit was AnnexL
After I disabled it and saved and rebooted my router my latency suddenly returned to normal from international 500-600ms down to 230ms, and local 200 - 300ms to 30 - 50ms!!
Well in nearly c*%e in my pants :-)

That 1 wrong setting could cause me such discomfort and grief.

I am happy again.

And again Sorry Afrihost and IS for coming down on you.

Thanks. Indeed, really looks like a lot of 4Mbps people are not getting anywhere near their line speed. At least I get my max on 384, but latency also bad. I wonder what is up with IS... :(

AH puts the blaim on Telkom and my line:
Received yesterday after my complaint
Was running at full speed this morning till about 08:45

Hi Ad
Thanks for your mail.:)

Kindly note that your connection that is coming through to us, although we are receiving several port errors on your line.
Kindly note that although your connection runs through the same line, they are run on different ports . The port that your connection is running through for Afrihost seems to have a lot of static build up on it and Telkom ports are run on a different port as well.
Please contact Telkom and ask them to re-sync and re-port your line.
Please advise if you are still having any problems once you have called Telkom.

Thank you and take care.

Have a great day & please feel free to let me know if I can be of further assistance.

Warm regards.

Blame shifting, now there is a surprise :) Do you have a backup account you can test with? Just to make sure before HAVING to contact Telkom. They say that your connection to them are noisy, but your local traffic seems to work reasonable (http://mybroadband.co.za/vb/showthr...-Slow-Speeds&p=3881598&viewfull=1#post3881598)...

Guys ive been getting manageable speeds during the day, which is around 130-190K/sec ...but it always fluctuates, but youtube streams fine during the day even with hd videos. For the past few evenings ive been getting almost 512 speeds, some downloads were around 20 to 50K/sec. I mailed afrihost and they told me to get my line resyncd becoz there could be a possibility of port errors.....but i cant understand why this happens only in the evenings and its strange that youtube still works fine. This is my results for international speeds as of right now

UK

USA

This is getting really frustrating. :-/

My speeds are still flying....

no matter when i log on, torrents always fly. getting 40kb now on my 384k a/c?
