Afrihost still reseting everyday?

This is a bit "catch-22." The reset is actually in our interest. Apparently it has something to do with usage tracking, without it, you would have a lot more deducted from your account the following month. This leads me to believe the root of the problem is actually with IS. Perhaps Afrihost should contact them?

When I schedule a file to download overnight I don't want to wake up and find my connection down and the file at 40% - kind of defeats the purpose.

I've tried this with my Netsomething ADSL router and my Gigabyte one, they both just die with the connection and don't come up until I reset them?!

Uh.....you need to start smoking some proper stuff. The gravy train has since moved along ;)

WebAfrica is able to update your usage without any issues..... they just warn you about >11pm on the last day of the month.
My previous ISPs, same thing.

You're kidding, right? That ^^ is what I based my theory on. If WA can do it, surely Afrihost can as well. So why don't they? The only reason I can think of is because there is a something preventing them from doing so (possibly IS). Unless they consciously made the decision to revolutionize the ADSL market then screw us over with this lame cutoff thing.

Go read Moshe's comments on this issue:rolleyes:

The are a few reasons as to why we do this:
a) It is the industry standard.
b) It also helps with working out the cap that someone uses. You can only work out the cap properly when someone gets d/c.
c) Also prevents from someone overusing the cap before we can work out total bandwidth used.

Hope this helps.

Hey All

Thought I would also get involved and add my 2 cents worth :)

I spoke to the sys admin guys and they explained to me that Internet Solutions said that this is the protocol we need to follow.

Hey All

Just spoke to Gian and he said that we do it mainly as an extra precaution as well, so we do not get exploited. However we will look into removing the d/c. Just no ETA as of yet.

Just to let you all know that we have extended the timeout for 3 days for now. We will then take it from there.

However as stated previously we are serious in sorting this out.

Cheers.

From here

I'm sure we'll get another response from Afrihost soon. EDIT: They seem pretty serious about this

Hey All

Thanks for informing me. Please note that we are not resetting every day. We do this every few days.

I and Afrihost are aware that we should not be resetting at all, and we will be removing this in the next while. We are 100% dedicated in offering service with out any flaws.

I hope this helps.

I haven't really noticed it. The performance of my Afrihost account has been top-notch.

Ah - that explains why my router only does it every now and then - I think I found a work around using google, so it might not be an issue for me.

Soz, but downloading 7.4GB of data without a download manager is stupid.

Agreed resets are not good though.

Resets = poo poo
downloading without a download manager = poo poo

Gatf@l of the resets, that cause havoc...

So called Afrihost, spoke with a rather arrogant gentleman that informed Afrihost / IS will not cease the resets...

So reported them to ICASA / DOC - lets see if the bureaucracy has grown any teeth.
