Afrihost throttling speeds?

I have also noticed on various threads that it is mainly 4Mbit users getting shafted all over IS's network. Either they have a major glitch with their bandwidth structuring or they really can't handle the load, although I can't see how the load could have increased this much in a couple of days so that doesn't make sense. Axxess, Afrihost, OpenWeb, Imagine.. everyone depending on IS seems to be affected.

My 384k Afrihost account on the other hand, has been just dandy since the outage - getting full line speed all day.

+1
Saw some (valid) 4Mbit MWEB complaints as well though.

Definitely a 4mb user thing... i've suspected it since way back when! NO ONE IS LISTENING TO ME!! :(

But i am 384k :D so happy days are here...

Hmmm, then it is tempting indeed.

Just one more 'quick' question... can i downgrade to 384k again if i upgrade to 512k?

In case i get the 4mb user syndrome! Or speeds are pathetically slow... or something..

Guess the worst thing that can happen is i cancel altogether and then sign up again for thew 384k? If i can't downgrade though.

Can't imagine that will be an issue, because I can change my account to different speeds and even capped in the client zone.

Don't they have a single upgrade/downgrade per month limit though? Not sure but just cautioning in case. I imagine multiple changes to the account in one month would wreak havoc with the accounting.

I'm fairly sure they charge a downgrade fee, not sure how much it would be but probably in the region of a month's rental. Not 100% sure on that, but it's what I've heard.

The thing I don't understand is if it's just a 4mb thing, shouldn't I be getting at least 384k/512k speeds? Atm I'm getting lower than 384k to any international server. Doesn't make much logical sense to me :(

I know Cybersmart does charge a fee. I can't remember seeing anything about it in AH's TCs. Guess there will be some sort of deterrent to continuously upgrading and downgrading since it will wreck havoc with their throttling system.

Well, firstly speeds suck this morning but it might be a seed issue.

Secondly, if their speeds are rubbish on the 512k package then surely i should be able to downgrade for free. Downgrade fee? That's crazy. then i just cancel the whole a/c and sign up again as a 384k user. For free...

actual line downgrades you must pay in afaik. package is free however.

Getting horrible speeds today too. I haven't used enough data yet to be throttled either...

4 meg uncapped

Mine to London today:

And New York:

And Hong Kong:

So why the hell am I still averaging 5kb/s for ANY kind of download?

I am also getting pretty good speedtests on my 384, but my downloads are also at full speed. Surely does look like it is only affecting 4Mb users.

This is my maximum "new" DL speed since Monday 03/05/10. There's a 33% decrease in DL speed but my UL speed remains normal. Has their FUP / AUP changed again? 384 btw.

hmph.

37 peers and most of them are from overseas. Doubt that it's a seed issue.

Just as i praise Afrihost they balls it up :/

I really don't think it is them this time :) I think the problem is higher up, since too many people from different ISPs are experiencing the same problems.

How much have you downloaded so far? On 384 it is going to be impossible to be in the throttling bracket already (which is still at 40GB)...

200 peers and average of 15kb/s... incredibly frustrating.
