yeah i did that once and the next time I went into clientzone the feature was gone and only paid options were left.

I changed my ISP and cancelled my account on 24 th , sorry afrihost cant carry on with this shaping of Shaping Policy: 18.8% Download/ 6.25% P2P , until you get your act right , maybe you see me again as a client.
This is really the gist of it, and has yet to be satisfactorily addressed.
The current state of shaping is new and recent. So in my layman's view either you have increased in subscribers or your backbone has decreased.
This has been covered a few times in this thread.
The reason shaping is being seen implemented a bit more aggressively is due to an increase in demand on our network. While we almost have certainly signed up new clients to our ADSL network we have enough capacity to cover this.
Shaping is there to protect the network again congestion, so P2P and non-realtime services are being shaped to ensure realtime services are left unshaped![]()
Afriguy.....the last I'll say about this. Shaping is not being implemented a BIT more aggresively. It's coming down like a ton of bricks. Normally we could have expected anywhere from 12 - 18 hours of no or very little shaping. Now we are sitting at 7 odd hours(estimate) unshaped, a couple lightly shaped and 12 hours shaped to death. And we have no idea why....because there hasn't been much transparency.
I am not going to quote the various posts you made stating that this was temporary....2 weeks is not temporary, its catastrophic and it's getting worse. Please see this from our point of view, we signed up more customers, we have enough capacity, we are shaping you into the ground.......how are we supposed to believe you? Yes we are all aware of the AUP and the measures available to keep the network running, it is valid and fair. However it is starting to feel that you guys are hiding behind this. Which is sad, because the fact that you didn't made you unique.
Please don't take this as personal or an attack, it is pure constructive criticism. I would dearly like to order a MIFI device and sim from you, and recommend this and the ADSL services to other people, hell, I just sent a friend to you guys, now I look like a proper chop. I'll give you guys another month, you've definitely earned that much. But if the situtation does not improve you are going to lose a LOT of customers.
Once again thanks for you're hard work....now a little less spin and some more hard info please![]()
Very well said, goes for most of us I would think.
Also want to touch on Turbocharging quickly. Are you guys aware of the feature?
It unshapes your account, there are 5 free turbocharges per month (or 300 mins) so if you guys need to urgently download something you can hit the Turbocharge button in your ClientZone![]()

I really don't see the utility in Afrihost consistently downplaying the significance of what's played out over the last week and a half or so. I find it insulting, frankly, that you would refer to shaping being 'a bit more aggressive' when a product which has been superb for months on end has effectively been ruined.
As for your turbocharge facility I'll again repeat myself: I've not needed to make use of it once since introduction; to suggest I do so now does not, in any way, shape or form, address the fact that your home uncapped product has tanked from what it was a short two weeks ago.
Out of interest have you seen an unusual amount of new uncapped activations at Afrihost this past month given the situation at M-Web?While we fully understand that the accounts have been performing on an almost unshaped basis it's frustrating to see them be shaped now. Again, this is something we're looking into.
Guys,
Stupid question - but is Netflix regarded as a real-time service?
I battle to get to 720p, but with Mweb (I hate to say it) it streamed happily at 720p, and sometimes at 1080p; and that was with a 4Mb Premium Uncapped.
I've now got a 10Mb Uncapped with AH.

Sorry to bump a reply from ages ago (relatively speaking)
But the answer - from my experience - is a resounding no.
My experience is exactly the same as yours. Netflix on MWEB 10mbps was awesome, 1080p all the time. Netflix on AfriHost - 360p and timeouts.
To touch on Netflix, Hulu etc streaming - it's hard for us to officially support these types of streaming services due to the current country restrictions. Traffic can be routed fairly differently depending on the method to access the services.
We have done our best to accommodate Hulu/ Netflix but I'm afraid (at this stage at least) we can't officially support them![]()
Just activated turbocharge and my NNTP is still plotting along 12KB/s . I did reset my router.
We haven't tried to downplay this though, we can very well see that judging by the comments on this thread that we need to check things out. We're doing this.

I'm simply suggesting the turbocharge to lift the shaping if content needs to be download, I didn't say that's was a permanent solution.
