Sometimes I wonder how they manage to stay this calm - I'm sure behind the scenes a lot of "colourful" language is used.

I'm sure I have been sworn at a lot today. But I don't mind I have been swearing a lot today as well

This was part of the initial spike along with iOS - it has since subsided though :)
The overall higher demand on the network is still present though - which is what we'll need to crack.

You mean the pirated version? The digital download version is apparently extremely flawed and the majority of people I know got the disc.

I'm too lazy to scroll back through all the recent pages, but I think we should al least acknowledge that AfriManGuyGirl is trying to assist where possible. Sometimes I wonder how they manage to stay this calm - I'm sure behind the scenes a lot of "colourful" language is used. Personally I believe they're trying to help everybody as much as they can. From my personal experience (and I've been with AH almost 3 years), they always come through at the end.

So, thank you AfriManGuyGirl.

And in saying that... wtf guys?

Shaping Policy: 18.8% Download/ 6.25% P2P

:p

EDIT:

Speedtest seems happy though...

Thanks for backing us up here, it really is appreciated!
Behind the scenes is lots of work and a whole bunch of crunching going on through the numbers on the shaping policies - so not all that much swearing ;)

We'll have this sorted, I promise!

Updates for Linux/MacOSx will quite possibly be seen by the shaping system as downloads, if you look at how it's fetched - using wget, essentially.

Oh, I know... One would think the Linux mirrors would find their way onto a whitelist but hey, it's not as if using the 'net for anything productive is important, right?

Or the Microsoft website...

37MB download taking an hour is ridiculous.

What are you talking about. Your Youtube works fine, stop complaining :)

Shaping relaxing by the minute. Funny how SA works together with Afrihost and agrees to not use excessive bandwidth after 12, to allow us full speeds on our lines, even though everyone has their torrents scheduled to start in 37 minutes?

Shaping Policy: 50% Download/ 25% P2P

Hah, I beated you: 'Shaping Policy: 75% Download/ 75% P2P'. Just in time for me to sign off on another day with utterly woeful Afrihost internet. Wonder what tomorrow will bring, aside from some more 18.8/6.25 pure internet joy.

I signed up for Afrihost yesterday, and I must say I wasn't impressed.. I usually get about 210 ping to League of Legends EU servers, with Afrihost I was getting 320 ping? I'd expect it to be better? But not 320..

Oliver

Have you tried counting all the Linux mirrors? :D

Just the default 6 local Ubuntu mirrors will do, thanks. :)

I've got Skype downloading at present at between 5... yes, 5kB/s and 80kB/s. That with ostensibly no shaping applied, testmy.net multi-threaded tests returning around 370kB/s and Ookla speedtests, being Ookla speedtests, showing full line utilisation. Not something anyone should be satisfied with I don't think.

:(

Are you using ftp or http?

Skype installer through the Software Center... I'd try grabbing the tarball but I frankly can't be arsed any longer.

Ah ok. Get a VPN for your Ubuntu updates :D
Yeah the Software Center uses your sources.list file by default so I'd reckon you're probably using http.
