Afrihost Uncapped ADSL Feedback (Pt2)

Extremely annoyed with Afrihost, 2 days, ago clientzone says no shaping but torrents and streaming weren't working properly, I switched to The free 1 gig capped account and everything was normal again. I will say one thing though. Despite me being heavily shaped every day ( By heavy shaping I mean 12-15 hours a day) I managed to download 360gigs on a 2mb line.

It most assuredly feels like you've been downplaying things, ever since the sheen of blaming iFans for the sudden slowdown wore off. And no, I wouldn't go so far as to say that the home uncapped accounts had been 'performing on an almost unshaped basis', but what shaping there was was most certainly quite reasonable. 18.8% is a fair bit less so.

I'm sorry if I gave off that impression, not really sure how else we can go about it and admit that there's an issue here and we're looking at the shaping?
We haven't blamed anyone, we give you guys the facts. Look at the whole iOS history, everyone was affected. Since then, we've simply seen a higher demand on our network. Until I receive other feedback, that's what the facts are.

Don't think we're blaming anyone here...

We're looking at it.

Sorry about this :(
Please send me a PM with your info and I'll take a look at your account.

So someone from Afrihost phoned me earlier. All he said was that he "doesn't know what's wrong"(basically said: "tough ****") and that I should just "pay the extra R100" to get a business account. Obviously it's us the customers that are "abusing" the network, and not Afrihost that has shaped EVERYONE to death...

The problem, from my perspective at least, is largely down to it now nearing 2 weeks after iOS7 supposedly breaking the world's internet, and not seeing one iota of improvement in your home uncapped performance since. Quite the opposite, as has been said; shaping seems more aggressive and regular now. End-user experience does not create nor support the notion that you are getting a handle on things.

To be fair here. I do not think they have the faintest idea what is happening at the moment. I think they are all praying that they wake up tomorrow morning and everything is just better :)

We haven't said that this high demand is due to iOS though, not sure where you get this from?
The iOS 7 / GTA5 traffic seemed to have died down a few days after release. As my numerous updates have mentioned here - our team needs to review and test the shaping policies thoroughly in order to track this down.

We're getting there though. We don't believe in just going to sleep and forgetting about things until they magically go away :)

It was initially held as a partial explanation by your colleague, and you even apologised for your contribution, even if in jest. It's been the only attempt at explaining the sudden jump in traffic, which now seems a bit of a red herring, as your shaping has not improved a jot since.

We're not sure if this load demand is still linked to the iOS updates or not. Don't really think it's worth debating something from posts that are older and have happened already.
Let's rather tackle the issue we have now. Once our team come to a conclusion I'll have further feedback.

Just a little shoutout of thanks to AfriGuy and later Afriman who sorted out my
Code:
line migration,
line upgrade
line bundling
everything else
for me with the utmost of ease.
You guys rock :)

It's a pleasure, glad we could get things sorted together!
I'll pass the kudos onto AfriMan too :)

Dude, for us here... the people actually using your product... the issue hasn't changed. At all. All that has changed since the initial slow-down is that a superficially valid partial explanation has lost its impact.

Again using JINX as one of the few metrics the common oke on the street has access to, today has shown traffic flow pretty consistent with what was seen 3 and more weeks ago. A time when your uncapped accounts were still performing admirably during the day. Yet now, when the things we can see have normalised, you're still up **** creek.

I'm too lazy to scroll back through all the recent pages, but I think we should al least acknowledge that AfriManGuyGirl is trying to assist where possible. Sometimes I wonder how they manage to stay this calm - I'm sure behind the scenes a lot of "colourful" language is used. Personally I believe they're trying to help everybody as much as they can. From my personal experience (and I've been with AH almost 3 years), they always come through at the end.

So, thank you AfriManGuyGirl.

And in saying that... wtf guys?

Shaping Policy: 18.8% Download/ 6.25% P2P

:p

Speedtest seems happy though...
