Afrihost Uncapped ADSL Feedback (Pt2)

Just been shaped to 12.5% download and P2P 6. 25% after 63gb (mostly streaming) on a 10mb uncapped while other guys are allowed 1TB and are seen as heroes, nice AH! Is this part of the CPT stranglehold?
accounts are probably horribly shaped because of the current strain on the network caused by the outage - so the big users may well find themselves shaped evern more severely. The guys who manage to download 1TB a month are seen as "heroes" because they are able to use the network to its maximum capacity - they also get shaped earlier.

By getting the network utilization to above 85% consistently - so no peak vs off peak timing it becomes possible to justify expanding the network - such as securing IPConnect capacity in Port Elizabeth .... :D

Hands in hair.

This is my CAPPED 4Mb account.

Uncapped even worse. Both accounts useless for anything but browsing.

It's not exchange congestion.

6.4 KB/s - 115 KB of 687 KB, 1 min left

This is just an attachment from my Gmail account.

I know a call has been logged with Telkom, but this is really frustrating, waiting on them to fix it.

I have exactly the same argument, was dropped to the same level of shaping after downloading 93GB in 8 days.. at the beginning of the month. When I called they stated that the shaping would be in effect for the rest of the month. I could not even sign in to the VPN at the office, which happens to be the carrier they use.

Needless to say I immediately submitted my cancellation, they started off so good with me but to blatantly treat me like a download criminal when my projected usage is but a 3rd of the average high usage user is just wrong.

I was far better off with telkom directly, never had any issues come to think of it.

No way - live support :D

Anyway - My connection in CPT has gone back to how it was - 12.5% HTTP 6.5% P2P even though I havnt used that much in the past few days (5gigs)

Posting videos like that is just as pointless :p

I posted to get a bookmark.

Anyway. Afrihost thanks for the awesome service from James M!

He was very helpful!

@Afriman, you should Think of offering a 200GB capped data bundle. It makes so much sense :P

As a bundle, the options for 10Meg are only 100GB's or 300GB's. 100GB's being too small, 300GB's being too big :/

(or is that the plan to get us to get uncapped, sneaky)

The reason I am asking is that I am paying R895 for uncapped 10meg, but because of shaping, I am only able to utilize around 100GB of that account per month, so why not get a 150/200GB capped account for the same price.

Hi guys,

I'm trying to decide whether or not to switch from MWEB to Afrihost. I'm pretty much fed up with mweb, and for the same price as their 4mb uncapped I can get 10mb with Afrihost.

Has anyone else changed from the mweb 'premium uncapped' to the Afrihost uncapped account? I'd really like to know your experiences.

I'd also like to know whether it's a better idea to keep my line with Telkom or switch it over to Afrihost to manage as it saves quite a bit on the price.

Any advice will be much appreciated :)

Afrihost definitely is the best for hosting line - they provide convenient tools that the end user can run to fix issues they may be having. How many GB's do you use monthly on average?

Generally between 80-120GB. That's mainly from nzb's and being fussy enough to watch Youtube in HD only :p

I'm looking at the uncapped bundle account for R897

We're discussing a 200GB option with our Bundles - however it is concerning seeing that you can only download your mentioned amount on your Uncapped line.

Could you PM me your account details and how, when what you're downloading to see if we can make any improvements here too.

Are there any issues with Cape Town? Ive been getting something like 25% downloading and 2.5% p2p for the past week or so. Even when im turbo boosting, i still have massive issues. Trying to get languages and lecture videos, but its impossible to download more than a gig a night. RUnning a 2MB bundled line...

Well, because Cape Town. My Uncapped 4Mb is now pretty much pinned to shaping Policy: 18.8% Download/ 6.25% P2P. I have no idea how/if people get into 100s of GBs in Cpt.

Data Used: 25.03 GB
Average Daily Usage: 1.56 GB
Projected Monthly Usage: 48.50 GB

I've been using an account from an IS based provider for the last day or two to see if I should stick with AH.

That is just absurd. I think the throttling situation is getting so bad now that these accounts are effectively not uncapped by any definition. You've just said it yourself - your R895pm will only get you 100GB. I've worked out that on the 20KBs throttling I pretty much permanently have on my 4meg account, I'm effectively capped at ~65GB. Lord knows how the people on the leaderboard manage it - I'm throttled to 20KBs after downloading 23GBs this month.

Anyone have an opinion on Openweb - I think a year of putting up with Afrihost's half baked CT service is enough now.

I've been advised by a very nice gentleman from afrihost tech support to change to a business uncapped account because I am in Cape Town. *sigh*. 2mbps uncapped = throttled at 11 KB/s.

Maybe they should drop their business uncapped rate then for Cape Town users, since by their own admission, their Cape Town standard uncapped accounts are sub-standard. At the very least, I still don't understand why I should be paying the same as users in other areas who clearly get better value for money. Before the whole switchover to MTN last year and the ensuing IPC debacle in Cape Town, I happily averaged 120-140GBs on my 4mbps uncapped account. It is now physically impossible to manage much more than 65GBs per month at the mostly max 20KBps throttle.

10meg Bundle will be just fine :p. Your NZB's will be shaped at certain hours of peak traffic but if you run them over night, they will be fine. Also, youtube doesn't get shaped, so you can enjoy your 1080p videos 24/7 :P
