Well could you try to at least avoid shaping users who are using on average less than 1.5GB per day over a 7 day rolling window or something?

Also I was not shaped yesterday. It was not a torrent, it was a high priority protocol. It was blatant throttling.

Still waiting for a reply btw. Been four and a half hours now. But I see you are all offline now, so I assume its not going to happen tonight.

Tomorrow is the 25th, which means I have to give notice on my account tomorrow or pay for another month. Please give me something concrete before 12pm so I can make a decision. If I dont get a reply, all assume the worst and cancel my account.

I am well aware of your shaping policy and have come to terms with my NNTP/P2P downloads being shaped,
But i was trying to play minecraft with a few friends on a local server, and my lag was so intense it was unplayable,
then i switched on your "turbocharge" for 60 minutes and my lag disappeared after the time was up the lag returned.
No as far as i understand real time services aren't shaped.
What protocol does minecraft use that i get shaped so much?
 
My NZBs are standing still at 0kbps. This was from the early hours of the morning when no shaping is applied according to the client zone. Anyone else experiencing it? Torrents seem to be going. I'm in the Free State
 
I know the AH guys denies it, but shaping does affect real time services. Youtube is def affected.

At night if I feel like youtubing, I switch to my capped backup account with AH. Then I can actually watch 720p with hardly any buffering.
On my uncapped account even 360p is a no go.
All this on my 2mb line.

The more we can encourage people to torrent late at night, rather than during office hours and peak hours in the early evening, the more we can unshape for other shaped services that have less impact on the overall network :(

I have always scheduled at night but I think I might be starting too early. What's a good starting and ending time?

Look the later the better. We see the network start to unshape between 11-12 and then we see usage rising again between 7-8am. That's still 8 hours of pretty decent download time :)

Yup, definitely too early but 7am is when I kill it. Thanks AfriMan :)

We've tested this extensively and I am pretty confident that we don't touch real time services. We've seen that YouTube can play and get maximum line throughput (depending on the quality) even on the harshest shaping policy. I really don't believe that this is the case.

We'd need to test further. I do know that running shaped downloads and torrents while streaming can interfere with the quality of your experience, so we'd need to test and determine under what conditions this occurs.

Which server are you using - ours or an external service. Also, have you tried other links. We do shape NNTP but it's not blocked. Remember that if you're also torrenting at the same time, those services are shaped in tandem. So if your torrents saturate your connection, there will be no available bandwidth for shaped services left for the news download.

It depends on the server you're playing on. If they're using a non-standard protocol or P2P aspects on their traffic, we may see it as P2P. In that case it would be shaped.

Are you running any background services though which may be shaped, like a torrent or a download. Perhaps that is affecting the QoS and when you turbocharge it removes those restrictions?

It's not just you. This has always been the case for me.

Hulu's streaming algorithm is a whole lot better I believe as I'm able to watch 720p which I cannot get with Netflix on a 4Mbps line.

Normally, early evening, I don't torrent or download. On weekends, when I want to watch some streaming sports, then I would stop any torrents running as I have noticed the "experience" quality is affected.
 
Turbo Charge doens't work. Turbo charged for an hour and it lasted 5 mins. back at 0KB/s.

I don't RAPE the internet and feel that paying R497 for an uncapped account to get unlimited emails is unfair!

I'm actually considering giving Telkom ISP a chance.
