Afrihost Uncapped ADSL Feedback (Pt2)

It depends on the server you're playing on. If they're using a non-standard protocol or P2P aspects on their traffic, we may see it as P2P. In that case it would be shaped.

Are you running any background services though which may be shaped, like a torrent or a download. Perhaps that is affecting the QoS and when you turbocharge it removes those restrictions?

No all my downloads where switched off the run on a schedule for after 12.
As far as i know it uses standard TCP/IP protocols. Only other bandwidth using program that was running was team speak.

What can we expect in terms of shaping over the weekend?

Some time unshaped from somewhere 'round midnight tonight until about 9 or 10am tomorrow, with permanent shaping - sometimes down to 25% on HTTP - for the rest of the weekend, going by the past two.

And yes when i turbocharge the game ran without lag.

It all depends on demand at any given time. I'm hoping that the school holiday will mean that we'll have a chilled weekend on the network, so we can shape as little as possible.

Let's all cross our fingers for that one :)

The good intentions of your post aside, I'm well beyond crossing fingers and hoping for the best.

We almost at the end of these issues. I've been assured by our Directors that we're close to a permanent solution - I just have not been given all the details. I promise if I had more info I would share it :(

It's only the three term schools that will have a holiday this weekend, not exactly something that is going to cause a major shift in congestion. I'm praying the bandwidth gods will be kind to us this weekend but I sincerely hope that Afrihost is doing more than praying, crossing fingers, etc. to help the network.

You know we're doing a bit more than that :)

This is great news even if it is not official news... Looking forward to hearing what the solution is! :) Thanks for keeping us updated!

Great stuff, but will the solution be implemented on Afrihosts definition of soon/shortly?

I can't imagine what will happen next month when Telkom bumps the speeds. AH will be in total chaos. Hopefully this solution takes that into account.

We've taken the Telkom upgrades into consideration, always have :)
