Afrihost Uncapped ADSL Feedback (Pt2)

So I can cancelling upcapped now and going for 50gb capped - cannot use more than that on uncaped now anyway.

Last night when I went to bed, I had a 300mb file that was on 76%. Now it is on 97%. Which means in the last 12 hours, it did 60mb.

That's really horrible, I'm really sorry that we're not giving you the performance you need. Even on the harshest shaping this should not be the case.

Let me know if Capped works out better for you, or drop me a PM so we can investigate this further :(

We started unshaping pretty steadily from around midnight - from 2am we had pretty much unshaped at maximum. Some of the very heaviest users would have been shaped lightly, but otherwise most should have been running at full on downloads and P2P.

Please drop me a PM so I can check why you might have not been unshaped :(

Sent PM.

We don't like the complications of time based promotions. Although we have done so for Mobile Data, we much prefer offering special prices that you keep for life (or that just keep dropping). We are reviewing what will happen when Telkom does the upgrades, but we're waiting for final confirmation on how they will structure the upgrades for wholesalers like ISPs. We usually go in favour of our clients, so I'm sure we'll work out something awesome when the time comes, but for now we're being a little more cautious :)

In that case it makes sense. I'm also not a fan of time based promos.
I'm sure you guys will do something cool :)

lets hope for competitive pricing, such a pity that my crappy exchange only supports 4mb :( so i will have to stay on 4mb (hopefully for a cheaper price)

You're lucky. My exchange is stuck on 2mb now. Hell it took months to go from 1 to 2 after the upgrade.

Good morning Afriman, can you let us know what Afrihost's uncapped products contention ratios are? Are they static or do they fluctuate? Thank you!

That is a time based promotional offer valid till Jan 2014. Considering that Axxess is Afrihost's sister company I don't think so.

Afriman has already said as much.

"Time based"

ie. sign up now and keep the price, Axxess has done it a few times before

That is from my reading of the offer - but maybe chat with TheAxxessLady for confirmation on whether pricing will change in Jan.

Either way, it's still a pretty incredible deal (Don't tell Gian I said that) ;)

I don't see how any ISP can maintain static contention ratios - the nature of contention is that it can't be static :(

We don't really work with these kind of stats, becuase they are essentially different from second to second and don't really add any meaningful input to managing the network (in our opinion) :(

That is my understanding as well. If you sign up during the promo period you will keep paying that price.

Now hopefully telkom identifies what the hell is wrong at my dslam and needs to upgrade it to fix it...or move my line to the box right next to it which is the MSAN... :P

Good morning Afriman, can you let us know what Afrihost's uncapped products contention ratios are? Are they static or do they fluctuate? Thank you!

Remember that there is a lot of contention at the Telkom exchanges, each DSLAM gets assigned specific bandwidth, then there is also contention on the ISP side and i''m sure backhaul also...so getting these numbers is impossible

I don't think Axxess will ever come close to the experience you will receive at Afrihost, Afrihost is right at the top of the ISP rank even with such shaping they implemented to control demand. Its good to pay more for a product at Afrihost knowing that they working on continous improvements to there network to deliver a best experience to there clients and continue with the great support they offer. That's just my opinion :)

Why are we shaped so bad at 4am?
Shaping Policy: 18.8% Download/ 6.25% P2P
On both our accounts.
:(

Same here! 5 days ago there was a brief period where I was unshaped at around 1am, but not since then! I'll check again today.

Um, Afrihost owns Axxess and they use identical shaping policies.

15kb/s on an http download right now :(

Happy to announce a temporary move to another ISP to escape Afrihost's shaping hell. Will be moving back as soon as soon AH can sort out their issues. Service sucks at the moment but I am still a faithful client.

PS: Thank you for the "Pause account" functionality and hope to see you soon :)

Ok i wasn't sure. I didn't know they use identical shaping policies such as XX% Download/ XX% P2P for each client, are each able to log into there account and see what they entitled to compared to such ratio's that Afrihost implements via the Client Zone interface? :)
