Weird, I'm on 50% download shaping, and yet the BF4 preload comes down at max line speed on Afrihost, whereas Telkom is suffering. Usually the other way round.

Come on afrihost

Shaping Policy: 12.5% Download/ 6.25% P2P. on 10Mbps Uncapped DSL Package, My total download for this month have been a whopping 16.8Gb, other months it wouldn't have been about the same. and now you are shaping me to f..... dead while i want to download a 500mb file which tells me it will take 8 hours.

F U afrihost going to cancel very soon if this **** does not stop

Edit I just canceled, what is the way forward to move my line back to telkom

Just applied turbocharge, but I shouldn't have to resort to those things specially seeing the fact that i am not abusing my unlimited actually i am benefiting them with my low usage to assist them to subsidise high end users which i don't mind, but then get such an aggressive shaping applied I think is not fair.

Uncapped is a shaped product and we do advise that there is no threshold or total which guarantees no shaping. It's purely determined by usage.

Sorry to hear you've cancelled though - I saw your PM to that effect as well. We totally respect your decision to do so and genuinely wish you the very best :)

Very odd. Might be how the traffic is classified. We'll need to look into this ASAP :(

A very low usage on average yes from my side.

For me it seems that the ClientZone shaping numbers mean very little. Whether P2P is shaped at 50, 12,5 or 6,5% I to max out at 3 or 4kb/s on torrents and SABNZB says I've download 648mb in 7 days. I schedule all downloads from 11pm to 7am and split it in half so torrent gets 4 hours and NNTP gets 4. Which means I'm moving 21mb a night on NNTP.

So, where people are reporting better shaping I'm probably getting worse.

I'm not planning on leaving. I'll stick it out because I'm sure you'll figure it out.
It's just massively frustrating. What really worries me is that AH still doesn't seem to know what the cause is (unless I missed a post).

I was planning to stick it out, but I feel as a very low end user I got shaped into the ground when I needed a download. I don't think their policies are 100% fair average use is probably 20/30gigs a month and then to be shaped to 12.5%

I'm being uncharacteristically patient lol. I don't know what's come over me, old age maybe.

Firstly - truly grateful that you are sticking it out and also have faith in us that we'll sort this out. Really do appreciate that :)

It sounds like you're not being unshaped when you should be, and we'll need to look into this. I don't know if this is a new anomaly, or if it just wasn't as important previously becuase shaping was less prevalent.

Drop me a PM so I can check your audit logs and see if you are not being unshaped as you should be :(

We do believe that in the long run clients have still had the best of the network, and while shaping may be more severe now, we've been able to a really great experience for most of the year with very little shaping. I think overall, we've still delivered a great experience and it's unfortunate that the shaping experienced has been concentrated over this period. We still do believe that overall we'll have delivered a good experience and good value once our long term solutions are put in place.

Hey guys, this is probably the wrong thread for this one but I don't know where to ask about this.

I got my router from Afrihost. It picked up my mac formatted hard drive perfectly the whole of the first month but for the last couple of days it has not picked it up (picks up fine as long as I plug it into my pc directly).

Also, last night the internet was quite slow on my gf's laptop which is connected via wifi, to the point where a page on zando would not fully load, yet on my pc which is connected with an ethernet cable the internet was blazing. Any idea what could be up here?

We were not downloading anything at the time.

Sounds like there may be an issue with the WiFi - because if you're connecting your drive into the USB port of the router, you're picking it up over WiFi.

Maybe try removing and recreating the WiFi settings. Sometimes that helps :(
