Afrihost Uncapped ADSL Feedback (Pt2)

Not sure if you've seen the posts a few pages back, but quite a number of people with poor international the last two weeks. Just FYI.

Edit: Afriman, I just remembered something. I think I started noticing the issues the same day I saw a post by Afrihost stating that 'changes to the Cape Town IPC had been made and Cape Town users should start seeing better results' or something along those lines. Perhaps I'm wrong, but I'm pretty sure it was the exact same day. I'm in JHB.

Changes to the Cape Town IPC would have been just that, limited to the Cape Town network, and would have no effect whatsoever on JHB or DBN. I highly doubt that there is any link, and if it was on the same day it is most likely a coincidence.

Well...I saw some erratic speeds on my connection a few hours ago...lasted for about 2 hours...

On my 2mb it fluctuated around 120KB...back to the 200KB mark now. Hickups happen...as long as they go away I'll stay a happy camper :D

Hi

Got reconnected after Telkom cut the wrong cable, and then still made a total mess at the exchange. I can download at fantastic speeds, managed to download 25GB yesterday (backlog of being offline for 6 days, lots of game updates). But with nothing downloading, I still have issues with watching videos on Supersport and DSTV On-demand

Please keep me up to date, we are definitely monitoring the international comments very closely to be sure that this is not an issue on our side :(

Are you having any issues with other streaming like YouTube, etc? We have had some people say they battle with Supersport but it's related to their media player.

Afriman I'm a bit confused by this statement. I provided a flurry of Speedtests earlier in this thread to show that International is fine on all my accounts (including Afrihost Capped) apart from Afrihost Uncapped. I don't mean this in a sarcastic/aggressive tone, but how could it not be an issue on your side?

I know that your tests don't give the same results, but unless you're able to give me a really long network cable from your office to my house, it's bad for me and only with Afrihost Uncapped. Any feedback appreciated.

So, we're nearing the 3 week mark now and the ADSL change I asked for has still not gone through. International downloads are slightly better, but this is probably only by chance. I've seen an international download peak at around 80kB/s for a few seconds before falling back to the 40-50kB/s range, which is a little bit better than last week. Youtube also goes slightly better, but the 40kB/s I get from there is not enough to play even a 360p video clip without lots of buffering.

Afriman, any news at all on this?

I'm still experiencing the same thing as you are - downloads from mirrors.is.co.za run at near full speed, but anything outside of the country is totally ****ed speed wise.

We've tried submitting it several times using Telkom's systems and we're not getting any joy. We've now submitted the request manually via Telkom Wholesale management, and we're waiting to see if this goes through.

from the other thread

AFriman could you please tell me, what methods of payment do you accept?

As a new customer would just like to know

:D

Hi, with other service providers, there are no issues with Supersport. Youtube is fine. The Supersport videos are very low quality, so one would not expect issues. The player also seems to be flash based, so that should not be an issue.

Answered this on another thread - think it was also from you :)

We take Debit Orders and Credit cards :)

If you don't mind testing for us, we'd definitely like to look into this. We'll need to have a look at some trace routes and see if there is any additional latency getting to their servers.

Drop me a PM or email the traces to me on [email protected]

Hi

I have sent numerous tests to critical care, still no resolution. What I have also noticed is the Supersport takes a while to load, looks like certain "Mweb" related sites are slow on your network. I have also tested this on various different browsers, all have the same issue.

I will do some tests tonight and send you the results.

I know they were dealing with your line issue for ages, so this may have fallen on the back burner. Will chat to them about whether are still looking into this.

Well if this is the case then this is not acceptable, if an issue is open for such a long time, it should be high on the to do list. Ignoring things will not make them any better. So far support has not been that great, I have to keep on emailing for responses, where this should be done automatically. This is a Business account with 24/7 support, although it seems like Critical Care only works office hours?

Critical care do generally work office hours, but a lot of the time they also work late and after hours and on several occassions even go out to clients to help them. They are a very dedicated team, and their first focus is our client's happiness.

To be fair to them, you line has been down for a while, so there was no way for the them to test and make any progress on this query without your assistance and feedback. Our own tests from the office and from home show no issues from our side.
