Afrihost Uncapped ADSL Feedback (Pt2)

So I get home and my speeds are TERRIBLE as expected. Still no feedback from AFRI-anyone.

Sorry about this. AfriGuy assured me that he was on this, I'm assuming that he has gotten back to you. Will harrass him about you until we get some movement on this problem :(

Nothing has improved from earlier @Afriman. Still at 250KBps

This is pretty strange - honestly not getting my head around this. Let's chat more via PM about this - there has to be a solution somewhere - just need to figure out what is causing this :(

Is there any issues with Afrihost today? Getting some terrible speeds

No issues on any of our networks at the moment - in fact seeing excellent throughput all round all though North is still shaped a lot more than we'd like :(

Will you drop me a PM so we can check this out? :(

I can tell you that when it happens...it happens to me as well...and I am sure many others. Bandwidth would go from solid throughput to jittery up and down spikes with averages in the mid 200kB/s. This never lasts too long - usually till 00:00 of that day then it goes back to fantastic for the next 18 hours or so. Rinse and repeat.

What is the change in price from the old 1mb uncapped bundle to the new 2mb uncapped bundle for home accounts?

Also what is the state of play with regards to shaping and additional IPC?

Price change is R100. new 2mb uncapped bundle is R397. Double the speed for R100, cant really complain.

But this is the Cape where we're pretty much seeing very little shaping or contention - so that the real confusion :(

Thanks.

What is the latest on IPC rollout? Is shaping still as bad as it was last month?

Edit: for Johannesburg

Edit: 25% Download/12.5% P2P on my currently paused uncapped account. Think I will be steering clear from AH for now.

The new 2Mbps bundle is R397 which is R100 cheaper than it was, or you can stay on the 1mbps uncapped bundle (with a 2Mbps line) for R297 - old price :)

Two nights in a row at same time, plus the other random times i have 25%+ packet. No issues with my cybersmart account.

We really need to get more data on the exact times when this is happening and traceroutes and ping tests when they do. If you could PM that to me - I would definitely appreciate :)

why is it that i only get full speed on torrents and youtube ? any other international server whether im streaming or downloading (Even from my own SFTP server) my speeds are 30-50kbps on a 4mb line during any hour of the day. Left mweb because of throttling come to find out afrihost just calls it shaping and is just as bad or even worse than mweb.

What download manager are you using? Run this: http://mybroadband.co.za/vb/showthr...e-fix-my-internet-quot-report-tool?p=11605496

It will run an accelerated download to really stretch your HTTP Download limits

Oh I know. I'm not shaped when these things happen...honestly really strange. For downloads it does not really bother me at all as they just run till they done. When this does happen and I try to stream something though...ai karamba...what a mess :p

How does that work?
Will you get 2 mb output for the price of 1mb or will we be throttled to 1mb?

I am just asking as I am applying for a new line at the new house today, and looking around for ISP for uncapped 2mb line.
Regards

Thank you for the reply but honestly why do i have to run anything ? im using a live bandwidth monitoring tool..its simple but it clearly indicates when im getting the full 400kbps or when im being hacked by afrihost when i choose to stream from any other site apart from youtube n only stream @ 30kbps.

I haven't had any issues whatsoever, I am actually mighty impressed.

I was with WA and on the 19th I had done 30gig over the whole month, and was on their "3 star rating" and shaped through the floor. On Afrihost I've done 41GB in just over a week. I am being slightly shaped which I fully understand, however if it were WA I would probably be sitting on 5 stars and 10kb/s if I'm lucky.

So far very impressed with AfriHost, it may be about R70 more but its worth every cent.

I know, but its possible that the download manager you are using is single threaded which does not properly use your connection. Either run that or try something like IDM

Download managers help pull off multiple mirrors or request the file a few times from the server.
Sometimes servers only allow certain speeds if they're busy, which sounds like what you're seeing here.
