Afrihost Uncapped ADSL Feedback (Pt2)

Guys with all due respect, the Afriteam are doing there best... Real time services are flying and are stable and shaping is only occurring mainly due to the demand the network is experiencing. Just be a little bit more patient, the IPC's will be upgraded with more capacity not long from now. Honestly Afrihost is terrific and there doing a splendid job, they can't be compared to other ISP's.

Not long from now the shaping will ease, just hang in there guys. :)

I and I'm sure most others who have posted issues in this thread fully appreciate the level of customer service Afrihost is providing, but to be fair, we are all paying for a service, that many of us are simply not getting.

Now asking us to be patient is all good and well, but then Afrihost should reciprocate and also be patient until the upgrades are completed before asking for us to pay for said service.

We should pay for the percentage of our line speed we are given! I'd only pay 6.25% of my monthly bill :D

Hehe :)
Remember that these percentages only shape non-realtime services - your realtime services are left untouched.

That may be Afrihosts intention, but the reality is very different. It could be related to the lack of capacity at the moment, but I found that simple browsing was so slow as to be unusable, and real time Http/SFTP downloads have been consistently stuck at 10-15kb/s at best.

Speed tests with Speedtest.net (using a script on a Linux Server) also support the fact that even if real time speeds are not specifically shaped, the load on Afrihosts Uncapped network seems to outweigh it's capacity to the point that even the unshaped protocols are slowed to a crawl during peak hours.

It's good to know that Afrihost is aware of the issue and is doing everything they can to resolve that problem, and since you are dependent on Telkom to a certain extent to help resolve the issue, we can't really blame you for taking longer to fix it than what we all would like.

However it's not completely fair for Afrihost to continue to ask those of us affected by thisto simply be patient, payup and wait.

The overall experience definitely shouldn't be hampered. Our network is setup in such a way that we simply cannot shape realtime services. If this is being affected we'll need to investigate this as a separate issue.

Have you chatted to our team about the poor results you're seeing?

Again, we are waiting for the rest of our capacity to be pushed live - however shaping can be expected during peak hours or when the network is busy, this is a necessity on any home based Uncapped service.

Hi Afri* :) Know realtime services aren't shaped - any idea if that would include Netflix? Took a hit on streaming quality when the shaping in the South returned; turbo boost *does* seem to influence it...

Via tests that I have done myself while using UnoDNS, shaping didn't affect streaming Netflix / Hulu.

Hi Afri*

I am currently on a 4mb Uncapped Package, my line only sync's at 2.5-3mb. I would like to move to a 2mbps business account. Both products are R397. Is there any possible way I could change packages without waiting till February?

Thanks
Oliver

Change it in Clientzone

Use the old Client Zone portal on the bottom right of the new Client Zone.

If I want to switch from a capped 150gig account to a 4meg uncapped bundle, how will it work?
Will I be able to give back the capped data not used, and have the credit applied to the 4meg uncapped bundle?

Data should fall away. Better use it then switch.
