Receiving the same here :( 18.8% Download/ 6.25% P2P at 1am

Edit:

My torrents are crawling at 2kbps :( This doesn't make sense? My LTE is downloading at 400kbps so it isn't the torrent.

30kB/s for downloads nearly 24/7 on a 10Mbps line is pretty much being throttled. Windows Phone app updates still fail to download on your network because of this.

I'm just holding out for the IPC upgrades to see if that improves the service levels to where they were a few months ago, if not I will have to look for another ISP

Just please bear in mind that nothing changed between the end of last year and now. We still have the same IPC in all regions until Telkom delivers the balance of our capacity as ordered.

Now that the bulk of users are returning to their normal online activities, shaping has to return to protect the network and deliver the best experience to users. It not a case of us changing policy or deciding to shape arbitrarily. We were able to shape less due to the decrease in demand over the holiday, but now we have shape as we have done previously until new capacity arrives.

This mainly in the North. While we're also seeing a lot more shaping in the South as well, it's a lot less severe :(

I did about 120 GB last month in total which is unusually large for me but non the less it was a pleasant experience as I had hardly any shaping.

I was with another ISP and was horribly shaped after just 30GB so I would recommend AfriHost to anyone.

Glad that our shaping system works for you. Thanks for the awesome post :)

This is getting rather ridiculous. I've been stuck on 18% Download / 6% P2P now for the past 3 days straight. 40GB used. What in the heck is going on?

As I mentioned previously we haven't changed our policy. It a case of demand falling away over the holiday and businesses coming back online and catching up since the beginning of the week.

Please don't forget that we already have an order since last year to Telkom for additional capacity, so we're hopeful that this will come online as quickly as possible.

That is what I also would like to know, but its seems they are ignoring shaping (throttling) queries here now :(

We're definitely not ignoring any queries at all. Please check my last few responses regarding shaping :(

Afriman can you explain the shapping better. Does lower percentage means higher shaping or the it is the other way around?

Lower percentage means you are potentially get that percentage of your line speed on shaped protocols. However this only affects non-realtime protocols, realtime services are never affected by shaping and achieve your best possible line speed.

My downloads, even something as small as 100kb are timing out on http, torrents are as low as 20kb/s on 4MB uncapped. My shaping on clientzone says 18% download /6.5% p2p. I've been shaped to a standstill for 4 days now, AfriHost make this a priority!

I've been with Afrihost since the start of November and every time I've been shaped like this either you or Afriguy has said that CT should not be shaped and within a day you'd done something on your end and shaping was gone.

Are you saying this is no longer the case? Cos if so then something HAS changed, at least in my situation.

I'll probably be switching over to Afrihost next month, but I just want to find out, how is Gaming prioritized on the network?
At present I'm with Telkom and the pings on games are much, much worse than I was getting with MWEB a couple of months ago.

I know that gaming was prioritized on MWEB so I'm just interested to find out what its like on Afrihost.

On the other hand the only time I am not shaped is between 2-3 am to 6-7 am. I am on a 4 meg line and doing about 200gb a month.
P2P are bad, even turbo boost wouldn't work sometimes.

In the North, we generally seeing clients been largely shaped until between 10pm and midnight. Thereafter shaping is being relieved from the lightest users first, so heavier users may still experience shaping until later :(

We're definitely seeing much lighter shaping in the South, compared to the North - but now that the majority of users are back, we will see some shaping occur during peak usage :(

We will still see some shaping being applied. Your downloads shouldn't be timing out though, there should be consistent data transfer but at a slower throughput rate.

I'm not sure what Afriguy would have changed. We can't really make changes to the IPC from our end (as in the MyBB team). But if he said you were unshaped, it may have been a separate issue which he was able to resolve, rather than shaping at IPC level.
