Afriman, why can your sister company give me 10mbps at R375 a month, but you cant? Your 10mbps bundle R897 a month, 10mbps line with you and 10mbps data with Axxess R775 a month. Sure for a downloader he/she will say noooo the shaping on Axxess is worse etc..., but for a Netflix, Hulu, Youtube or any other streaming service user it's brilliant. Even the 10mbps Bundle Business Uncapped is cheaper with them.

Afriman, any idea what happened? Didn't do anything on my side except reset the port again (23:15) after I checked if the latency had reduced, Ive never had exchange congestion before and I doubt that an exchange can become congested over night ;)

The weird thing from this luckily brief experience is that although my SNR stayed constant, my sync speed dropped, then climbed again  As if Telkom are messing around in the area

EDIT: Forgot to mention, the latency gradually reduced to about 700 then 500 then suddenly dropped to what you see

From my reports overall latency on the network remained solid, and in regional networks as well, so it may have been increased latency on your local exchange, or perhaps an intermittent issue on the line. If there is a gradual loss of sync on the line, it may become more prevalent over longer sessions, where generally your sessions are shorter and resync more often. Just spitballing here though, we'll need a lot more info to diagnose this :)

At 00:28, that doesn't seem right.

If you're in the North, it could be the case - I'd need to see more info to determine if you're being unreasonably shaped for your region.

Let's hope that Telkom comes through quickly with our IPC capacity order, so that we can do a little less shaping and a lot more damage to the internet :)

I'm in the South(Cape Town). The other thing I noticed is that I only got 300 turbo charge minutes for the month. I also had a problem with my turbo charge minutes last month.

The Axxess offer is a promotional offer which expires at the end of this month. I'm not sure how they're handling that, if you pricing reverts or only people who signed up for it keep that price - you may want to check it out with TheAxxessLady.

In terms of realtime service - you should essentially get the same performance on an Afrihost account cos we're on the same network. It really just depends on your personal preference :)

We'll have to look into that then. Drop me a PM so I can see if you're being shaped correctly.

300 minutes is the standard per month (equals 5 hours/sessions). You can give me the details of the issues you had previously in your PM :(

My mistake, sorry. Last month I received less than 300 minutes, you then manually added in two sessions. I made a mistake in thinking that 300 minutes was too little.

As for the shaping, I'll wait for a while before we take it further. This is only the first few days that I have been shaped this badly.

With a couple of the other ISP's now also charging in the region of R400/m for 10Mbps ADSL the promotion is going to be extended or changed that people who have already signed up keep that pricing ;)

From our research though, some of those offers are throttled products, so it's not generally a straight comparison. We still feel our current prices are competitive. But as I've promised, we'll be reviewing our prices when the upgrades settle.

Remember that pricing is based on volume and scale. We believe that other ISPs have put emphasis on 10Mbps offers in anticipation of everyone who was on 4Mbps being upgraded to 10Mbps by Telkom. However, we anticipated that this would not go completely as planned due to infrastructure limitations.

4Mbps has always been the most popular product and generally where most ISPs have concentrated their value offer, but we didn't want to shift our focus from 4Mbps to 10Mbps before we actually had the stats of how the balance of clients needs had shifted. I don't have those figures, but my personal experience has been that many clients who were 'eligible' to be upgraded we either not able to be upgraded, or still opted to downgrade back to 4Mbps to realise a saving on line rental. So we're confident that this was the right move under the circumstances to ultimately offer our clients the best value in the long run :)

30kB/s for downloads nearly 24/7 on a 10Mbps line is pretty much being throttled. Windows Phone app updates still fail to download on your network because of this.

I'm just holding out for the IPC upgrades to see if that improves the service levels to where they were a few months ago, if not I will have to look for another ISP

I did about 120 GB last month in total which is unusually large for me but non the less it was a pleasant experience as I had hardly any shaping.

I was with another ISP and was horribly shaped after just 30GB so I would recommend AfriHost to anyone.

This is getting rather ridiculous. I've been stuck on 18% Download / 6% P2P now for the past 3 days straight. 40GB used. What in the heck is going on?

That is what I also would like to know, but its seems they are ignoring shaping (throttling) queries here now :(

Afriman can you explain the shapping better. Does lower percentage means higher shaping or the it is the other way around?

On the other hand the only time I am not shaped is between 2-3 am to 6-7 am. I am on a 4 meg line and doing about 200gb a month.
P2P are bad, even turbo boost wouldn't work sometimes.

the % value you see, is the % value you get.. so if it reads P2P 6%, you are only getting 6%
