Afrihost Uncapped ADSL Feedback (Pt2)

JINX shows usage at just above busy weekend daytime levels, and shaping's yet to let up... at all?

Sense. This makes none.

We can't always match JINX or CINX exactly. We're seeing this trend nationally as well, even in the East where we generally never have to shape anyone.

Just to clarify we are going through our shaping and traffic with a fine tooth come to find any possible ways to manage the demand and improve the overall experience. It's not a "take it or leave it" scenario at all. We hear your feedback and we're trying by any means necessary to improve your Uncapped experience :(

Could someone explain what the numbers mean?
Does that mean it's x% of the original speed? Or what?

How does "18.8% Download" equate to me getting 70-90KB/s on a Debian ISO I need for a server build, whether I use a local or international source for the file.

It means that you can get, at maximum, that percentage of your line's available speed on that protocol. But if you're still running other services, it will affect overall performance.

I'm not privy to your exact throughput figures, so I have to look at what's available in order to judge trends. I can't however imagine your client base to be so markedly different from the mean that usage on your network won't at least trace the movement on JINX...

To wit, last week you pointed to overall high usage in order to explain the sucky speeds on your network. A quick look at JINX bore this out, and it was easy enough to blame it on Apple at the time. That ship has, however, sailed.

i can only report on the information that I have. As much as I'd love to have information about what or why our clients are downloading differently, we simply cannot know that without doing more research, and right now I think that time is better spend optimising performance and making sure that we streamline where we can to provide the best experience.

Like I said, from personal experience, we've been here before, we know what usage spikes look like as opposed to running out of capacity. I personally don't believe it's the case, usage will normalise and we'll go back to what we're used to. I just can't say when with complete confidence but I'm pretty sure things will be normal soon :(

I just honest to some god hope this isn't the new normal... :(

Afriteam...someone needs to look at twitch performance...

Watching live ESL WCS now and while my average is only 125kB/s throughput performance is stuttering on medium for crying out loud...4mb account. :what:

As I said before, my line is now permanently shaped this month even though it wasn't previously... ever. And even though my usage is less this month. I just 'Turbocharged' my line and these are the results of a speedtest on the line (2MB)

Local (JHB):

I'm not too happy with the international result. Moreso with the fact that I can be 75% shaped.

Performance so far has been pretty disappointing - done 88GB for the month and now trying to download a software package I just bought, http link - 110k/sec average on my 4mb line.

Same here :(

Trying to dl SAP mobile software learning packages. 50kB/s combined speed...4mb account.

I thought this was supposed to be the time we were supposed to dl our things...

1.57am now, my account says no shaping applied, but http download is still only about half my line speed.
If I switch over to webafrica I get full speed.

What account? I'm still on25%

What I don't get is that Afriman and Afriguy says that shaping is overall. They look at the whole system and not individuals. So why is everyone shaped differently.
I was shaped 15% and 6.25% last night.

Right now: 07:57,
Shaping Policy: No Shaping Applied

Is this heavy shaping due to a cable problem again, or is it the norm for users to be shaped to below 20% of line speed during the day?
I'm moving my ISP and was considering Afrihost but now I'm not so sure..
