Nope, 10pm now, shaping is back and downloads down to 5KB/s - now where did I put that old dial up modem????

an "uncapped" shaped account for midnight-morning/after hours use
a business uncapped account for morning to evening use
and a capped 100gb account for evening to midnight use

lantic after hours will cover your from 6 pm till 6am , and weekends for R60 a month :P

unshaped/uncapped up to 40mpbs vdsl :P

Ok i see lantic also offers cheap capped adsl also now.

So you buy the 50gb account at R250 a month ( yes its R50 more then afrihost , but data rolls-over if not used)

Then you add this on the product

So your adsl data will be a total of R310 , business hours you have 50gb to burn and afterhours you can go mad :P

Shaping Policy: 18.8% Download/ 6.25% P2P


But I am now getting over 50% of my line speed... wonder how accurate / up to date the numbers are...

I saw it earlier too, it`s all smoke and mirrors, I left Mweb to join AH and will be honest, after the two lousy weeks I have been an AH customer, I have spent more time @ 6.25% than anything else. The writing is on the wall folks, we have all seen this movie before.

I have to agree. Almost 12am now and still...

Shaping Policy: 25% Download/ 12.5% P2P

More of the same BS. Afrihost's awesome service is gone!!
 
This is very worrisome...

Despite the shaping, on my capped account I'm having terrible gaming latency, with international latency 100ms more than usual.

I really hope afrihost can sort out these issues. :(
 
06:00 no shaping and downloading at full line speed here in the E Cape - please let it last!!
 
Wow i have been with AH, for a very long time now.... The thing is i have never been Shaped. In the month i did the most was like in 320gig or so, and nada shape...No i have done 123GIG and looksie here Shaping Policy: 50% Download/ 50% P2P..

Really, Really. I am still saying... Every company gives you a taste of perfection then what do they do? They take the biggest byte of whats left..I think the network cannot handle all the clients now they cutting speeds. Cause imo why now all of a sudden we all are being shaped? What happened to the months before. MR Visser please enlighten us, would you be so kind?
 
a telkom tech is at my house at the moment.

Everyone knows when the router tries to sync at a higher rate than possible, it dosconnects and tries a lower rate, right?
Well my router has kept trying to go lower and lower and ended up last night at 1.9mbps and it still only has below 5db SNR.

This idiot tech guy said the solution is to downgrade the speed cause my line is set to sync on 5mbps.
Showed him the screenshot of the router stats with the 1.9mbps and asked then why is it still failing at 1.9mbps?
Epic response... "I don't understand those numbers".... :(

I asked how exactly would lowering the speed help when it can't even sync well at 1.9mbps to which he's reply is every time, it's set to try and sync too fast, we need to lower the speed cause you are too far away from the exchange for that speed :( FFS!!!!!

I get the same reply when I asked how we were able to get 7mbps with 12db+ SNR for 8 months last year?
Best of all is it's the same guy that set my speed at 5 mbps the previous time he came check out the line and saw for himself it was stable.

Hi Afriguy, I tried the same download scheduled to start at 1 am and it downloaded at 110KB/s so it was obviously your heavy shaping during the day yesterday which caused the problem. At the moment I have full line speed for downloads but if this sort of heavy shaping is going to be the norm during the day then I will be gone.

Sorry to hijack this current conversation, but I have been thinking about it for a while now and I think I am going to go ahead. Would it be possible to use an @lantic bolt on package on a line hosted with you guys?

I would like to use the bolt on between 6 and 6 and my current 10Mbps Uncapped account at the other times of the day. There is no ISP lock on the line right? Because I know some ISP's do lock the lines to their clients only.
