Lol, my sister has done 13 gigs this month, shaped????

This has been covered a few times in this thread, but to confirm:

Our shaping is run on a dymanic level and looks at the overall network usage as opposed to implementing limits on individual accounts.
So if the network is quiet we hardly have any shaping at all. If the network becomes busier (as it is now) your non-realtime services are shaped.

Now uncapped has just died completely in the middle of a big download. Have had to go to my capped account an everything ok there. Looks like I will just have to stick with my capped account and accept that for the next month until I can cancel this crap I will be paying R197 for nothing. Trouble is my capped account is just a 1 Gb free one so I will have to top that up to get any sensible internet so I will in fact be paying twice. Afrihost if you think this is an awesome experience I can tell you it is not.

Thanks for your straight up, honest feedback and patience. It's much appreciated :)
To touch on Netflix, Hulu etc streaming - it's hard for us to officially support these types of streaming services due to the current country restrictions. Traffic can be routed fairly differently depending on the method to access the services.

We have done our best to accommodate Hulu/ Netflix but I'm afraid (at this stage at least) we can't officially support them :(

Hi Afriguy,

I am in the same boat here, but unfortunately I don't use Twitch at all, just Netflix and Hulu.
While this is not an attack directed at Afrihost, the fact is that Mweb accounts manage streaming to Netflix and Hulu way smoother than this is managed on the Afrihost backbone.

Geographical restrictions aside, this is real time traffic which needs to be treated as such.
Perhaps your infrastructure guys would consider prioritizing all traffic to the UnoTelly servers (even just to the Cape Town one!) since this service is needed to access Netflix and Hulu from within SA.

Thoughts?

Well then...in that case...what about twitch :D I just threw Hulu and NetFlix in the mix because it's also a streaming problem which seems to be similar in nature to what is being experienced on Twitch.

I know that since UnoTelly and various DNS services are needed for Hulu an Netflix to be used it is difficult to accommodate that.

So fix mah twitch please hehe :D

We've seen some mixed results on Twitch, we haven't been able to replicate much :( AfriMan posted a really detailed post about it a while back, I'll see if I can find it.

You are aware you can convert your uncapped to capped and get an equivalent or close to it amount of capped data? This way you get capped usable data instead of a 2mb product you feel you cannot use.
So many options open to you. First confirm all your options before you jump to conclusions.

Sorry to hear that we've let you down :(
Home Uncapped accounts are subject to shaping, specifically during peak hours. What was your evening/ midnight traffic like?

Midnight shaping was solid of 6.25% P2P for the last 2 weeks , most of my friends have cancelled their account with afrihost , the word on the street is not good Afrihost

Yes I know. I thought I might be poking the bear with that one but I am also underlining the extra value of that R100.

hahaha good one.
True, guess it makes sense for a 2Mb.
Now, for a 10Mb, that's an extra R300. That's almost the saving I'm getting without DSTV, which is too much to pay for when something once worked.

Apart from the sheer ridiculousness of daytime usage being shaped to < than a fifth of line-speed, it's also a damn shame that peak hours seem to have been extended to Sundays and until after 22:30 on weekdays. ;)

Well for that extra R300 you are getting 5 times more bandwidth than me and you can download more movies and series than any person could possibly watch. But I understand your complaint regarding shaping and the frustration you have.

The current state of shaping is new and recent. So in my layman's view either you have increased in subscribers or your backbone has decreased.

It looks like shaping was no implemented after 1am this morning, which shaping possibly being relaxed from around 9pm last night. Please check again tonight and try and schedule as many downloads for after midnight :)

Also want to touch on Turbocharging quickly. Are you guys aware of the feature?
It unshapes your account, there are 5 free turbocharges per month (or 300 mins) so if you guys need to urgently download something you can hit the Turbocharge button in your ClientZone :)
