Afrihost Uncapped ADSL Feedback (Pt2)

Hi Guys, maybe the wrong place to ask but I will try anyway.

I have a Netgear D6300 ADSL Router and would like to setup my Afrihost Static IP on this router. Any Idea how to do this?

I did read an article that all Netgear Routers support the L2TP protocol. But still no clear answer from their support as to how to enable this static ip.

Regards,

Give Duxbury support a call, they can probably help you. www.duxbury.co.za

Believe me, it's more puzzling from our side. The upsurge does no correspond to uptake in signups or any trend we can identify. As far as we can see traffic is "normal" - there is just so much more of it. iOS 7 may have just been the tipping point, or maybe it was just a coincidence, we just really don't know what happened.

We saw something similar happen in Cape Town on our previous network, but it seemed mostly localised to the Cape Area. We're seeing a huge deviance from usage that we carefully track and monitor. From what I can see, we're not the only ISP wondering what just happened, but we're obviously looking at every possible solution.

Can you determine whether this is due to retrying of downloads? With slow download speeds I've found that many downloads e.g. Microsoft updates and other background software updates, timeout and fail and then retry. Were this to be happening on a large scale it would be perpetually self fulfilling.

Just a thought.

Hi,

Thank you for this. I think I will be cancelling completely then. They cannot advertise 24/7 unshaped on their site but then confirm the complete opposite in an email. I would like some feedback on this from the Afrihost reps urgently.

From this it really disappoint me, as I thought Afrihost were the most honest of all isp,s

My GPRS used to download faster than this !@#$ shaping... and that was almost 10 years ago.

I'm being shaped for 70% of the (24 hour day) for the past 2-3 weeks. Except normal browsing, origin downloads, youtube goes at full speed. IMO I think it's better than getting full throttled like the mweb customers. I use free 1 gig + turbocharge to download drivers and other important stuff.

But yeah, it's bloody annoying. I was with mweb for 2 years before they implemented the new policy and during that time I was never shaped.

This seems like it was more of a mis-communication, sorry about that.
I see AfriMan already replied to this though :)

No, that's totally wrong! Business is unshaped 24 hours a day. Please PM (if you haven't already) so I can have a chat with whoever sent this mail.

Sorry for the bad information :(

Our Business Uncapped accounts are most definitely, 100% unshaped 24/7.

I have moved to Business Uncapped from Standard Uncapped and I must say that I have had no issues so far. Full speed 24/7.

Now @ AfriMan/AfriGuy please answer my PM. :)

I am on the 2mb uncapped home @ R297 (voice and data line with telkom) per month and have been debited already for this month. If I upgrade to the 2mb business uncapped account via clientzone what is the monthly price? WHen will the line change take place? Will I just be deibited for the difference then between the two accounts?

I am waiting patiently for these telkom line upgrades to roll out...then if the situation on the network has not improved a downgrade to business 2mb will be in order :D

You'll be charged a pro-rata fee based on the new account and price difference from the old account. The price for a 2Mbps Business account [bundled with line] is R597/ month.
The line speed will stay the same, it's just a data/ shaping change on our end :)

4mbps home to 4mbps business.

I understand that this change will be effective immediately and I will be charged R290.32 pro-rata

I suppose this is a out of bundle rate? Cant I just PM someone and give them my details without me messing it up? :D Because in a full month there is a R200 difference.

We charge pro-rata based on the full product rate, but drop me a PM with the details and I'll have a look at whether this is making sense :(

Can someone please give me the link to the old clientzone? All I am getting is the Beta version?? I want to unbundle my data and line and apply for the business account.
