So about 6 weeks into the nightmare ...and Netflix are streaming at the same quality as YouTube circa. 2005 AD

When were you experiencing these issues and what region are you in?

We're seeing some high demand in North and South today and yesterday - possibly due to Microsoft updates, but the East is performing pretty well at the moment.

Are you seeing anything concerning when you run a traceroute?

Apparently HTTP downloads are separate from real time services such as VOIP. gaming, HTTP like YouTube and general browsing. I think they have systems that are able to distinguish any type of download by looking at the packets and then shape it accordingly, HTTP Downloads use just as much resources, such as threads and connections than P2P so they have to be shaped to keep the network running efficiently to not jeopardize Real time services they everyone requires to get through the busy day, however during evening or weekends there may be times when shaping isn't applied. Shaping will ease a bit once more capacity is live, watch this space and forum to keep up with the trends :) Everyday that goes by we will see Afrihost network getting stronger. :) I may be stating the obvious but Afrihost are doing everything in there power to provide the best possible experience for there clients to an extent by managing the network wisely and proactively

Thanks for this post - really helps to know that the information we put out reassures our clients that we're on the job and doing our absolute best to get things sorted.

As businesses start winding down for the end of the year, we'll also see some more traffic coming everyone's way hopefully.

Only reason I ask is because, as my previous posts stated, the only shaping I have ever experienced was with P2P, which was also during certain periods of the day. My direct downloads have never experienced this kind of shaping before. But since about 2 weeks ago, that all has changed. A year (of relatively no issues) later.

Ah yes, the kind of response that MyBB has become (in)famous for... Well done to you.

It has always been in place - it would have been displayed on your clientzone at any point where you were shaped - as in *%Download / *%P2P

Hey Afridudes, may I ask that you please divert some of your attention to the business thread?

Thank you

I'm glad the East is still running optimally :)

Heh if you look around you'll see I actually try to help where I can. Just gets annoying when people complain about being shaped on a Shaped Uncapped product.

Appreciate the assist here and there. Just don't put me out of a job, OK? ;)

People in Durban are always chilled. If there was a beach nearby me, I would be too ;)

I wish the east was performing well.

Shaping Policy: 25% Download/ 6.5% P2P(Been this way for days now)

Data Used: 37.27 GB
Average Daily Usage: 2.66 GB
Projected Monthly Usage: 79.87 GB

As I said earlier, I had to turbo charge just to watch streaming cricket last night.

That's pretty awful congestion - at first glance. Have you done ay further troubleshooting though to confirm that this is the case?

Going from what is mention in this thread and running a continuous ping for about a minute to both local and international sites I get an average of 753ms and 5% packet loss as of this morning, I can only assume from what I know it could be congestion. Anything else I can do to test on my end? I have logged a ticket in the clientzone last night so I am hoping I can get this sorted out.

Happy as a clam since the congestion has been sorted. Some minor hiccups still, but that is to be expected as Telkom is still tinkering away. Loving 420kB/s streaming! Zero lag and buffering on 720p. Even with heavy shaping. Your system is working...I'll say that much. :D

Hhhmm, are these from the time you posted? Bit odd compared to the Easts overall usage :/

Could you post the results of a traceroute here too? It'll give us better idea as to where the latency is being introduced.

That's awesome to hear!
Out of interest, how long was the fault open for?

That I don't actually know. I think it a pure coincidence that my fault got raised a week before they started doing the line upgrades in my area. I do think that the fact they were made aware of a previously unknown congested dslam it was put as a task to repair though. So I'd say it was open maybe 6 working days? On Monday my problems disappeared :)

The area "faults" are still open - which indicated that Telkom are still in the area working on some of the slams and exchanges. I'm still holding out for a dslam upgrade to 10mb :D (wishful thinking but oh well)
