Lol my neighbours are old. They ain't got no interwebs :P Loving afrihost, would like to see a price drop following telkoms price cut regarding upgraded lines soon though.

Hey guys, just another quick question. I'm moving begin Dec to a new place, how do i go about getting my telkom line transferred to there? Any idea how long this takes? Looks like there is a line there, but i don't think it's active. When should I ask afrihost/telscum to do the move etc? Thanx

:/ Telkom has a network freeze over december which means they will not be installing new lines dec-jan.

So even if i applied today or monday for a line to be moved to a new building im screwed?

IF there is already a line that is connected then it should be fine. All that will happen is they flick a switch and the line becomes active. You will obviously get a new phone number and that will have to be registered with Afrihost etc but you should not have a problem.

I must say ITS DISAPPOINTING have been with Afrihost now for some 3 weeks and none of the promises materialize. Download speed is pathetic, shaping to the neck, calls to the help desk means nothing, reshaping of ports on a daily bases, PM's fell on deaf ears and is not replied on. Bottom line here it seems is "come and join, pay your money and keep your mouth shut" we are busy catching new fools (PS nearly lost my link in typing this) so so sad

What region are you in?

I'm really sorry that you are having this experience with us, especially if you PM'ed me and I was not helpful - I'm really really sorry about that.

We definitely are not just about taking money and delivering a poor service - we truly believe that service comes before profits - cos if our clients are happy they will grow and support our business for life.

I can understand the shaping part - but if you're realtime services are poor, there may be other issues at play here. Have you done any troubleshooting with our team on this?

They will install new lines, they won't be making any changes to the network though

I'm not 100% sure about this - our wholesale rep told us that pretty much nothing happens. Maybe it depends on the type of installation. But definitely no major changes like IPC happen over that time :(

Hey there

Just select the Cancel option in ClientZone and then take Option 3 - Relocate. This allows you to set a specific date for your line to be moved back to Telkom, rather than at the standard month end.

It can take a few days, but we'll advise you when you go through the cancel process :)

Telkom does the actual relocation. They'll also advise if they can port your number or if you need to cancel and apply for a new line and number.

Any update on new bundle prices in preparation for the line speed upgrades?

We'll be emailing clients with Bundles who's lines have been upgraded. Essentially we'll pass on the line savings, but we're not going to be changing our data prices - as we feel they already very competitive with other Premium offerings.

With bundles though, many clients are going to be in a position where they may need to "waive' the upgrade due to line limitations which will most likely still prevent them from taking advantage of the upgrade. So we'll email you with details of whether you want to downgrade and take the saving on your line or upgrade your data and get more speed.

We'll be keeping our prices the same on data for now - we'll wait until the upgrades settle for now. Bundles are a different story - we'll email upgraded clients to let them know how they'll be affected.

Glad Chris could help :)

Already made up my mind to switch ISP's from Afrihost at the end of this month.

Sorry to hear this. I know things are not ideal - even though our upgrades are definitely showing some improvement already. Once our full order goes in, we'll have one of the biggest ISP networks in the country for DSL - and I think our clients will definitely be experiencing great speeds and service.

Wish you the absolute best though. If there is anything that I can do for now, please PM me :(

Could you ask your neighbors if you could look at their router stats. I know that might sound creepy but it is possible that your area's max sync rate is 1536kbps

I doubt the area max would be such an irregular rate. Sounds more to me like a distance from the exchange or cable quality issue limiting the sync on the line :(

Hi guys, just a question, I upgpraded my 1mb/s business uncapped to a 2mb/s business uncapped and also upgraded my line to a 2mb yesterday. I got the message saying that it may take up to 48 hours for the line to be upgraded, and about 5 hours later I received a message saying that the upgrade has been completed. My line is still only syncing at 1536 kb/s and not at 2048. I stay in Auckland Park, Johannesburg. Speeds are fine but I really want a proper 2mb/s sync atleast. Any ideas on this?

As mentioned, sounds like your line cannot achieve the full 2Mbps sync due to distance from the exchange :(

My line is so slow it seems like the dailup days and that at 8am on a Saturday?

Even though we saw pretty heavy demand for a saturday - I don't believe we ever went into poor contention on the network.

Are you still battling with speeds? Please drop me a PM :(
