Afrihost Uncapped ADSL Feedback (Pt2)

Kind sir, I can understand why we shaped during the day coz of peak times and higher demand on the network but when the network is quiet like at 11 or 12 to 7 am, there won't be shaping applied as the demand Is not so much at those times. Is that true :)

It all depends on when the demand happens. There's really no way to know when that will be - that's why we give you less shaping when there is less demand dynamically, so you always have the best experience that the network can offer at any time of the day.

Either way, it's still a great idea to schedule P2P after hours. If more people did this, we'd see an improvement in shaping :)

Not sure why - more surprised that no-one has commented on the strangeness. Looks to me like they are comparing their speeds with a Free GB or backup account from us :(

Is that bad for Afrihost customers though as they using our bandwidth though :p :(

Ok cool thanks sir :)

Well, it's definitely not happening so that's not anything to worry about.

But if any other ISP were to move over to MTN (which could happen I guess), they would have their own separate capacity, and we would maintain our own capacity independently. But we're not anywhere near anything like this :)

So to confirm you the only ISP on the MTN Network? If that changes can you inform us :p

I think we would definitely want to let clients know about something like this. Sometimes the perception around a change can be as powerful (or more powerful) than the change itself. Ultimately (and speaking speculatively here) getting more ISPs running on the network would be the next best thing to us growing at the same rate. Infrastructure will be upgraded, local and international links will be upped and there is more activity on the network so we can have more options going forward. So, even though it's not happening - I don't think it will be anything to fear for our clients :)

:) your quick responses and amazing support is appreciated highly. Keep up the great work :)

So AfriMan, what you are saying is this:
-> Openweb and Buzybuy doesn't resell MTN ADSL accounts, but instead resell Afrihost ADSL accounts?
-> I am not listing Axxess since they are part of Afrihost

Buzybuy says they sell MTN based ADSL accounts: http://www.buzybuy.com/products/adsl/uncapped-adsl-vdsl-mtn/
Openweb we all know do funny deals.

They are probably reselling via MTN Business. There are no other major ISPs operating on MTN Business in the same way that we are - i.e. running off our network. MTN Business maintain their own capacity and IPC which is totally separate from us - who they sell to or allow to resell is completely separate. Looks like BuzyBuy resells from IS as well :)

Nope, I have an OpenWeb account running on the MTN backbone. They can switch backbones between IS and MTN for their different types of accounts. Think I'll go back to IS though because in general I found it a little better!

So no reply?

What was going on?

I could not game! I could not browse...

Sigh :(

Hoping it is better when I get home.

So the one night I decide to game a bit and there is major rubber banding and it's sloooow... even opening pages are slow :(

Could this be part of the problem that was spoken about earlier? (Saw something online earlier today that said something is broke and had to be turned off for maintenance).

http://www.speedtest.net/result/3109670629.png (not bad results if only I was not on a 10mbps bundle, which I am, so actually very crap results)

And what about hops 5, 6 and 7 below:

All the regions should get equal enough capacity depending on the demand on those regions and Afriman will decide that. I don't think he can give you amounts, as this is confidential I find. But not too worry Afriman and Afriguy have things under control. Ball is in Telkom's court now :)

Lets just wait for Telkom to get that full extra capacity live based on Afrihosts order. It could take as long as February next year or maybe earlier if we lucky. Patience

I'm afraid we can't go into exact numbers. Just remember that the capacity that was brought up online is provisional and we are seeing better results.

I have no idea, I ordered my router from afrihost already set up.
It worked last night, it was just PAIN FULLY slow, to a point where I just didnt bother.

I don't game as much as I would like to and the last few times I have sat down to game there has been quite hectic lagging and rubber banding.
Sorry if we missed your post :(
Whar DNS do you have setup on your router?

Do you notice these issues often, or do they happen randomly?
It may be worth having a look at the DNS entries on the router and if there are any DNS settings on your PC.

No shaping applied - uncapped account not downloading at full speed?
