Yes, fairly consistent. Vimeo just now again. First 25 seconds played perfectly, then the buffering starts and pretty much stops playing. Youtube loads a segment very quickly, then pretty much stops loading until video catches up, video pauses, then loads the next segment quickly... etc etc.

We'll need to do more testing on our side - but we're not seeing the same issues on our side.

Uploaded some personal videos to YouTube last night was super-fast and was watching some old stuff in my subscription channels - definitely not a network issue.

Did you check if you had the same issue either on a capped account (like a Free GB)?

My youtube on my 10mbps line is useless as well. Hell, my browsing has been impossible. Pages take MINUTES to load :(

If it is not a network problem then fair enough but it is not just one or two users, there seem to be quite a few of us experiencing similar issues. And that's only us that know about the forum, what about those who don't.

Yeah also slow for me in CT tonight. Unshaped by torrents are in the single digits. Just did a normal download of a podcast which was at 40-60 kbps and youtube was stuttering even on 240p. Skype was decent though.

I see there were some issues from clients in Cape Town but nothing posted on the SAIX noticeboard. Saw clients posting from Rondebosch and Newlands - some has slow to no connection last night until early this morning.

Are you in any of these areas?

From our side - network is running as normal and we're still seeing very little shaping happening :(

AfriMan
Seems like the problem I am having (from the PMs I sent you) is the same as some others users are describing here - great in the morning, but when I'm home after work its terrible. As stated, the Telkom guess account gets full line speeds on the speedtest, will try with another ISPs capped account today after work. This all started on Tuesday, Tableview area Cape Town.

I only have one other account I can test with, so I'm not sure if I can do much in the way of testing but I'll be sure to let you know tonight what my results are. If there is any other test you would like me (and others if willing) to run let us know so that we can get this sorted out and get back to the happy days :)

I am in Cape Town CBD.

Something is not right and it is becoming very frustrating.

I can generally forget about downloads, something that would have takin minutes now takes hours... let's not even think about torrents.

I'm seeing a few complaints in the Cape area from this morning and last night on Twitter and Facebook as well - but they all seem to be ultimately Telkom related. In terms of overseas services it's very unlikely that we wouldn't be affected national with those same issues. My gut tells me that this is most likely connected to the reports we're getting from CT about Telkom problems.

We need more info though to really figure out what could be happening :(

I'm in the CBD too (upper Hope Street).

Will check again when I'm home tonight. I know it wasn't a line issue, and traceroutes looked 100%. Almost as if something somewhere limited traffic as soon as it peaked above a certain threshold. No, didn't check a capped account.

being shaped...only did 84gb....on a 10 mbps line....ah well, let my steam download chug not merrily along....

Which region are you in? We're still shaping more than we'd like in the North, but there's pretty much no shaping going on in the South and East. If you're in these regions - we need to check this out for you :(

Ditto streaming hasn't been great since we had that downtime in the south

We'll need more info to go on - but I have asked our network team to run a full health check on our side to ensure that there are no obvious issues being overlook. But at present our local and international links are reporting as 100% optimal.

Can you please explain the differnet regions you talk about?? Which regions are where?

Three points of connection to the intertubes: one in Jo'burg, one in Cape Town and one in Durban. Each serves the areas closest to it. Nobody really does anything anywhere except in Gauteng, so the other two regions actually have happy uncapped users. Jo'burg's is still tracking the sun though; daylight and it's 18% for you... The sun, and phases of the moon perhaps.

So where do connections from Bloemfontein go to? CT or Durban?

Seems like I am not alone in this. Why did it happen all of a sudden?
Line was perfect for weeks.

We've checked with MTN and they report all links and Core Network are performing 100% optimally.

Whatever is causing this, we haven't been able to replicate it as a network issue :(

I can concur. My line has been fine now for couple of weeks.

(un)Luckily I was off sick yesterday and could really see how my line performs during the day. Line was running PERFECT...until 15:40.

Using Bitmeter OS I had a stream open running 720p and I was getting a constant average of 420kB...then it dropped and starting spiking up and down - much like kripstoe's graph - with averages down to 260kB. It was like this - this jittery up and down spiking until the early hours of the morning.

I think we're definitely gonna need to get feedback from Telkom on issues in the area - we're definitely not able to replicate these issues on our side - but I've asked MTN to do some testing ASAP
