Afrihost Uncapped ADSL Feedback (Pt2)

Status
Not open for further replies.
I am sorry I am not going to send any more pm's. I have sent what I can there is nothing new I can say in a pm. If I send anything I would only be repeating myself and I do not have time for that.

I have sent a crap load and (I think) Afriguy still promised on this thread that he will get back to me and has not forgotten about me! and "will" get back to me. I am not lying, you are more than welcome to search on this thread and I can promise you that you WILL find the post. I have still not received feedback and my line is still not working as it should.

Over a week now that it has been performing like ****. Last night I had "no" shaping applied and speeds were ok (NOT what they should be, got 4 - 5 mbps on my 10mbps bundle instead of the normal 8.5mbps) but I could not game as i took two steps forward and one back. This was beyond frustrating. I had to use turbocharge even though I had no shaping applied and only that made it better.

There are two reasons why I have a problem with this:

1) I work hard and I work a lot! So when I have time to relax I want to be able to press download and get my download OR I want to be able to go lie down on the couch and play some online games without issues. This was the reason why I got the 10mbps bundle from what I believe is the best ISP instead of a much cheaper 1mbps bundle.

2) I have been promised feedback but have received NONE. I understand that everyone at Afrihost is extremely busy but come on. More than a week with no feedback and the problem is still not resolved. Besides me having sent multiple speedtests and trace routes and having contacted more than one representative and posting on this thread multiple times.

I'm sorry that this is ongoing for so long. It definitely should not be this way and I'm truly sorry.

Will chat to AfriGuy about this and we'll both make sure that all your mails and test results are given over to our specialist team and that they give you a buzz as soon as possible to start sorting this out :(

Hi Afriman... so I see that the new pricing for Afrihost was released http://mybroadband.co.za/news/adsl/92349-new-afrihost-uncapped-adsl-bundle-prices-unveiled.html

Could you please advise why the 10mb Uncapped customers once again are overlooked? Why must we always be left out of price reductions?

We are essentially just passing on savings from Telkom on the new line upgrades - data prices have not changed. I guess the real issue is that there is nowhere for 10Mbps clients to be upgraded. Telkom are not allowing 20Mbps on ADSL 2+ (only on VDSL) and there is very limited access.

Let's hope they include us 10Mbps peeps soon :)

Apologies for not reading back and checking this myself, but the simplest test is for you to run a capped account and see how that performs. That eradicates line/exchange issues and proves you are being shaped, even though it says you are not.

I had similar, so swapped to a capped account and have had no issues ever since. Full speed all the time. Granted, it depends on your download habits, but I am on a 100Gb package and probably hit that once every 6 months (read - 30Gb Ghost download).

My opinion on uncapped, is that even though you are unshaped you are still sharing bandwidth with other uncapped users and that "allocation" can get maxed out affecting you. Capped obviously has far less contention.

Hi there

I am with Openweb Gold at the moment on a 4mb account. Is there anyone who can tell me how the Business uncapped account competes with the OW Gold account? Seems the business account is unshaped 24/7 as well as with torrents? And can a home user benefit from this or does it have to be a company?

Thanks

Afrihost Business Account would be a good move if you download a lot. And yes, you don't need a business to use it, it's just called Business Uncapped because of its priority, as businesses don't have time to wait for downloads etc.

Exactly what happens to me. But I need a ~150GB bundle, which is not available

So now I am being ignored? You reply to people who posted AFTER me but still no reply to my issues?

LOL - not at all - I did reply to you. Just snowed under with the current hosting issue and replying to posts as I can get to them. I did reply to your post after you posted this :(

?

2Mbps Uncapped Bundle:
Old: R497pm
New: R397pm

4Mbps Uncapped Bundle
Old: R697pm
New: R597pm

Read again: DATA has gone up.

4mb uncapped used to be R697 with the line being R399, so the data portion was R298.
Now it's R597 with line of R279, so data is now R318. So effectively data is more expensive. Same applies to 2mb

Oh I see what you mean. But remember, Afrihost's line rental was always discounted in bundle form...

I am not moving to a capped product. I went with a uncapped product because I do not want to have to worry about data.

I game and game updates and downloads can get very large, then there is still streaming and movie downloads every now and again. Some months I hit 100gig, other months 200+

Jip, I'm aware of that. So they just kept some of the savings or the wholesale price of DSL lines is different.

Bundle savings
Old saving on 2mb R79. New saving R49.
Old saving on 4mb R99. New saving R79.

Not cool Afrihost , not cool!

There once was an ISP who were content on charging more for a "superior" service.
I don't think their balance sheet is looking very positive now.

Sorry that we've let you down :(
We're passing on all of the saving that Telkom have passed on.

@Afriguys

Do u offer test accounts for 4mb users? Im shopping for a new ISP...

No explanation yet why I should be getting 10Kb/s at 8pm at night? Is that an acceptable level of service?
