Afrihost Uncapped ADSL Feedback (Pt2)

Status
Not open for further replies.
Will try tonight and revert.

Also will try performance on 3rd party DNS via uncapped and capped and revert. Should be same right if speedtest isn't shaped?

Haven't had a chance to do 3rd party DNS but these results speak for themselves.

What is going on here Afri*??

How can my speed be so poor in the evenings on uncapped but fine on capped (for non-shaped services obviously)?

No, you can just unbundle them and we'll treat them as separate products so the one won't affect the other. You can also re-bundle them as a Capped bundle for some awesome savings :)

If I understand this correctly, I unbundle the uncapped account (2mb data + line), I will have just the line for Rx.xx and then get a capped account?

As I have seen not all the capped accounts have the cap+line bundle.

Nope, same issue.

Capped is flying - uncapped isnt

qNXsc.jpg

10Mbps Line - Also, this is the same issue I have been having for a while now, Afriman has been looking into it :)

Agreed Zertop. Having the same problem...again...
Capped is full speed. Uncapped is really slow.

Again. Afri*. Something is glitching with uncapped accounts in CT area. Your network diagnostics must surely pick this up!?

Agreed but my one is a 4MB account in JHB and I'm also experiencing the same issue.

Can Afri* please assist us - guys, we're not imagining this issue please help us with some tech support.

No, you can't just claim it's definitely exchange congestion, when I proved the other day in the Business Uncapped thread, with exactly the same symptoms, that it in fact had 0% to do with exchange congestion. You know what they say about assumptions ;)

If I were you, vicv, I would push both the ISP and Telkom for answers, let them search for it. For Telkom, Twitter seems to be the way to go these days.

Good luck, vicv.

Sorry there hasn't been a response to your ticket. Can you send me a PM. You can do this upgrade in ClientZone though. If you are in a bundle, you can unbundle first and then upgrade your line in the old ClientZone (under My Telkom Lines) and then rebundle afterwards.

Ermmmm no you cant. Clientzone is borked. Can't rebundle to a 2Mb package and can't change anything on my line.......

Indeed, you are correct! [-]But if I recall correctly, wasnt the one on the uncapped thread on a different hop? Not hop 2? Could be wrong though :P[/-] Sorry - wrong, was referring to different person

Vicv, is there a way for you too try with a separate router? I just assume its exchange congestion due to the fact that it is on the second hop :)

See here, this was my traceroute for that specific issue, which Telkom's IPC resolved by doing stuff on the master uplinks - I have no idea what this actually entails, but they ensured me it isn't on the exchange:

Nope got only this one router. It has to be on Telkom side since this line is brand new.

So, textbook exchange connection symptoms, but no exchange connection ;)

Wow, okay haha. I see what you mean :D

Indeed :D

I want us to stop any service provider from taking the easy way out, and take them to task. "Exchange congestion" seems to be bandied around more freely than it really should.

Obviously, there are cases where it's true, but I know someone who waited 2 years for an exchange upgrade because of this, only to have exactly the same issues afterwards. So I never want this to be me.

Sorry there hasn't been a response to your ticket. Can you send me a PM. You can do this upgrade in ClientZone though. If you are in a bundle, you can unbundle first and then upgrade your line in the old ClientZone (under My Telkom Lines) and then rebundle afterwards.

Seeing that I will never get a response from Afrihost (non)support about this very issue. I just followed these instructions and unbunled (without cancelling anything) but I don't have an option to downgrade my line back to 4meg. When I tried in the new Clientzone, it says I currently have the 4meg/10meg option and I can only downgrade to 2meg.

Now I tried to rebundle and it says "Unfortunately you do not have enough products to create a bundle. A minimum
of two products is required to create a bundle." WTF does that mean?

I just want the new @$#%@ pricing applied - how hard is it?

Afrihost, I don't often get angry but for pete's sake how hard can it be to GIVE EFFECT TO WHAT WAS PROMISED TO ME BY EMAIL?

I think the issue is this, step by step.

1) Telkom Released new Pricing
2) They are busy upgrading the lines
3) If Afrihost were to change your line now (for example from 2Mbps - 4Mbps), telkom would up that 4Mbps line to 10Mbps, instead of upping the 2Mbps line to 4Mbps.

This is why Afrihost must wait for the line upgrades to complete, before messing with peoples speeds and indirectly causing them more money.

For your specific issue however, try the old clientzone - that may have more info on this matter. https://clientzone.afrihost.com/cz1

Well the crappy uncapped account speeds ceased to exist promptly at 00:00...again...

I will be monitoring this closely...it smacks of a limiter being switched on somewhere or something kicking in/off at 00:00.

This was while being on zero shaping. Keeping my eye on you Afri... :D
