Merry Christmas Everyone :D

Shaped badly on Christmas. Really Afrihost?

Shaping, your gift this Christmas!

They keep insisting that shaping is dynamic and doesn't work on schedule for peak/off-peak days. My view is that a peak schedule exists for all weekdays (ignoring pub holidays) and only weekends are completely off peak. I think that shaping is only 'dynamic' during off-peak hours so that they can eat into customer bandwidth into off-peak hours as well. During peak times, my view is that it's always shaped - public holidays included. Same crap on Dec 16!

I can honestly say that I have never been unshaped during peak times even on a pub holiday to prove that their 'dynamic' shaping is designed to benefit the end user!
Anyone with views to the contrary?

I, for one, don't think this is the case. While it might be for you - I have not been shaped on my 10Mbps Afrihost Uncapped account for the past 4 months (except for that Cape Town pic failure, which only lasted 20minutes)

The difference between us is our locations, and I believe that is a huge factor into whether your shaping strategy works. I can imagine how annoying it must be to be shaped so much - I would probably commit virtual suicide :D

Could be, I'm in jhb north on a 4mbps and they keep blaming shaping on capacity issues and that they ordered it from Telkom.... Blah blah blah

Can't stream youtube anymore - my WDTV Live is useless.

Something is properly broken. JHB West.

Having authentication issues. Both capped and uncapped. Used my phone to login to clientzone. Says I have no products, all gone. Anyone else?
My AH apn is working though. AH is now properly broken.

Internet is very laggy, real times services struggling to buffer. Not getting full speed at all, Telkom related possibly?? :)

Hey Afriman,

My had my neighbour install ADSL 6 months ago, and always told him to to swith is data from Telkom, to another ISP.
He has a 4 meg line, and by that time I was still on 1 meg with Mweb.

I throttling had problems with mweb, moved to Afrihost and upraged to 4meg, the beginning of november.

I realise that I can't reach is speed on p2p downloads, is always does around 480kpbs, and if I have never reached more than 399kpbs. We live in the same complex, and judging by the distance to the exchange I am closer, since his flat is far down, and he is on the third floor. We tried downloading same stuff, but I have never reached is speed.

2 hours now stil lcan't auth with my uncapped, my free gb account works fine.

Trying to download a 222MB youtube vid on Afrihost 1Mb/s line. It's doing this:

qxkksc.PNG

What the hell? Not only is it not running anywhere close to max speed (which would be roughly 900Kb/s) but it is constantly CUTTING OUT! If I pause the download, then resume a few seconds later, it miraculously continues downloading for a few seconds, then seems to slow down to zero again. Why doesn't it just download the $@&%ing thing like that without having to constantly pause and resume? Why is it even cutting out in the first place? Why isn't it going at full line speed? It's Saturday, not exactly peak business hours.

I don't download 24/7, this is the first time I've used this line in over 24 hours, and this is the service I'm getting. I was using a different line all of yesterday and my PC was off during the night.

Edit: OH THAT'S JUST $@&%ING FANTASTIC. IT CUT OUT COMPLETELY AT 32MB. WHAT THE ACTUAL $@&% AFRIHOST?!

How's your ping? Mines working perfectly?

Please would you run the "help me fix my internet" tool - it's a few threads back under adsl. I'll post a link a bit later - I'm on mobile
Thx, searched this subforum, used the search tool, but was unable to find it.
