Afrihost Uncapped ADSL Feedback (Pt2)

Each to their own as Afriman says, although, it is tiring monitoring the stars all the time, one ends up seeing stars :D

As I work during the day, not much data get's moved between 6am-5pm, after 5pm, it's unshaped anyway and can do whatever I want, which is more I can say for AH network. The times I am home during the day, shaping is hardly noticable, although, I don't download then, I'm talking browsing, a bit of youtube, maybe some netflix (SD instead of the HD I get after 5pm).

I've had ADSL for about 5 years, so the novelty has worn off and don't feel the need to download the internet, and see it more like a utility like electricity that's there when you need it.

Makes sense :)

Must be permanent HD streaming...
They aren't maybe using VPN's for downloading... ah... distros, are they?

If they are then it violates our AUP. Difficult to catch people doing this, but when we do, we usually take strong measures :(

So its 1:30am and p2p is going at 11Kb/s and my profile says 18.8% Download/ 6.25% P2P and i have only done 40Gb on a 4Mb line uncapped.

Can someone tell me is this how its going to be for the rest of the month?
I only download from 11pm - 12am onwards as i game prior. Im so confused.

It means there is still pretty heavy demand at that time. From what we can see demand is only dying down from around midnight (in the North especially) and in some cases we can only unshape between 1-2am. This still provides 5-6 hours of unshaped downloading time, but hopefully our new capacity will improve this experience :(

What happens when your clients have "heavy demand" on their bank accounts? May the pay less ... ?

I don't know of anyone who doesn't have heavy demand on their bank accounts. I know I do :(

Telkom are just not being fair, they taking most of the money. I respect what your company is trying to do but maybe getting rid of the test accounts may ease some demand on capacity. Giving away free bandwidth maybe isn't a good idea. 1 GB is a lot to give away to every person that doesn't pay. Just my personal opinion on now to ease demand on the network. For marketing yes its a great idea but for people that already on the network not so good. I feel we need to save every MB/GB essentially for clients that pay for a service and not for potential clients. :) :P

I hope you catch those abusers :) All they doing is creating a not so promising experience for clients that abide by the rules

Afriman/Afriguy

I'm getting a 1.71Mb/s speedtest.
I've tried testing my line on clientzone, but that's failing.

Hulu/Netflix - don't even think about loading it.
My internet is dead - please help!

Can someone from your helpdesk please call me - I called your number but 24 minutes to speak to someone was a bit excessive.

I'm sure all the AH support guys are looking at their watches counting the seconds go by praying for that capacity to arrive.

I'm guessing Pretoria, Waverley, is perpetually on high demand...
Soundcloud streaming buffers every 10 seconds, youtube buffers even at 240, I'm really unhappy with this constant issue.

And downloaded the network tool thing, it won't launch, it just idles in taskbar services

Our Free GB accounts don't make a significant dent in our capacity. The lion's share goes to Uncapped accounts, even more than Business and Capped. And of that, most of it's torrents - even though we shape as much as we can to give the best experience.

I promise you we would suspend Free GB's in a heartbeat if we thought it would improve our client's experience :)

At the end of the day, "abusers" are also our clients. I just try to think of them as users who have different needs to me. I mean, I love to (legally) download my series and music, but there are obviously some people out there who must have all the things. That's the thing about Uncapped, everyone pays the same, and it's all you can eat ;)
